Agree, but to me its more about the cost. I can't see many people wanting to buy a $50k+ 4 cyl model to only gut it and spend about another $10k for a swap.
I see, hopefully we will only get the 6 cyl variations here in North America.
Oh ok, got you. Its also hard to compare when we have missing and incomplete numbers. Did a quick Google search and it seems GT-R numbers will variety from site to site. It looks like manufacturers didn't do a good job at keeping track or preserving record of production numbers during the 90's.
Its hard to find the exact number. Some units for the US were somehow unaccounted for. But based on what we do know from the two largest market for the MK4 I would say roughly 50/50. Either way I still count the NAs as Supras. If not, one could say Corvettes aren't really rare because we're only...
The issue with going after the GT-R and NSX is that those two are totally different animals from their 90's counterpart. I also don't think the MK4 was as 'exclusive' as people make them out to be. Yeah we didn't see them left and right like Camrys and Corollas, but with 45,230 units made...
Same here, but you know the old saying; if it looks like a BrokeMotorWagon, and sounds like a BrokeMotorWagon, then it probably is a reskin BrokeMotorWagon :p
According to this, the 4 cyl makes 145kw or 194hp
On the bright side a 4 cyl model would be cheaper and make a great candidate...
Yup, there are definitely fake bumpers on this thing. A lot of people think the front bumper that we see is the final design, but its not. Its hiding the real bumper underneath. A Toyota employee over at SF has said even though it appears to be less camouflaged than the earlier prototype the car...
Speaking of BMW's DCT, are they any good? I recall their SMG tranny being total garbage. A good buddy brought a M6 when they first came out. The car had less than 20k on it before the tranny went out. It was still under warranty, BMW repaired it and he sold it afterwards.
Its not really a surprise considering the Z4 already comes in both I4 and I6. I really think the new 'Supra' will just be a reskin fixed hardtop version of whatever BMW decides put out.
Its over all the net. I wouldnt be surprised either because Toyota's 2.0 turbo 8AR only makes 241hp and BMW's N20 is listed at 240hp (most likely slightly underrated).

Its a Porsche, people will pay for the badge. When it comes to Toyota I really don't think they can command anywhere near that with a 4 cyl Supra. Heck, they will probably just have a hard time trying to steal buyers from the base C7 with a 4 cyl model.
I don't even know how they could even justified a 4 cyl Supra at that price point, especially when you can buy a C7 for $55k. I guess the only pro would be that it would be easier on the pockets for a 2JZ swap.
It looks a lot better in these latest spy shots with the bigger wheels and lowered suspension. It gives me hope that the finished product will be a looker. Though I'm still worried about whats under hood.
I can already see some differences between the two in the comparison on page one. Different gauge cluster hood, center arm rest/cup holders, air bags, seats, and the part of the console on the driver side that sweeps up. Now I wouldnt doubt if there will be some parts shared like steering...
I just think it is odd that they go through all the trouble to make the exterior different, but are now wanting to save on cost by leaving on BMW's shifter knob and iDrive dial. Sorry, I just dont buy that argument. If this was truly the case than the car would have simply been a rebadge BMW Z.
I ain't going to lie. Have been a huge Supra fan since the F&F movies. Before that I had no idea what a Supra even was. This new one better not disappoint!
Because of this :p
TBH I could care less about the Z4. It will probably look uninspiring like the rest of the BMW lineup. The only thing Im looking forward to is its dimensions. It could give us a clue on how big or small the Supra will be.
