Obviously we were just talking about appearances, but I'm hoping the coupe will have a stiffer feel and weight less than the roadster. I don't think most people here mind a co developed chassis, but a Toyota drivetrain would be nice.
I can't speak for everyone but I was expecting a slightly different proportion from the BMW. Also a in house drivetrain would be nice; which I believe could still be possible.
I recall an older statement where a BMW spokesperson said the two will not share any sheet metal.
X2, coupe >...
So here is a quick overlapped side shots of the Supra coupe and Z5 roadster. I believe the two prototypes are using the same wheels, so I just matched them up. It looks like they will both have the same wheelbase. The coupe appears to have a little more of a over hang.
I'm hoping I'm wrong, but...
^I hope Lexus is considering this. The 640i starts at $77k and $87k for the SL450. Lexus has just released pricing for the LC500 @ $92k and the LC500h @ $96k.
It looks like the TT V6 will come from the new LS and the V6 hybrid from the LC500h.
I really hope the 4 cylinder part is false, but if it is true than I would agreed with your statement for certain markets like Europe, Japan, and China.
Older articles, but the idea has been floating around for quite sometime.

I'm hoping the mirrors will change. Its worth noting the LFA and LC prototypes had different mirrors as well.
The mirrors on the prototype are from the 3 series. I'm sure they will change on the final version.
I totally agreed with you. Its just seem the tend is to down size to a turbo 4 cylinder. Porsche did it with the Boxster/Cayman. Either way, the model I would be interested in would be a 6 cylinder turbo.
I hate the idea of a 2.0t Supra, but it seems 4 cylinder turbos becoming more popular. Reports are saying the facelift Mustang will ditch the V6.
