Yeah, fuel isn't going to have any affect on gear shifting. Pops, maybe. But not the trans.
A lot of us drag racing guys use 114 octane race Ethanol (E1/Ignite Red/VP x98), I can't say I've heard a noticeable difference, but I can surely say the trans behaves the same. That and octane content...
@A90.C is definitely on the right track here. You don't necessarily need a sensor to run a static map, though it's dangerous as E content varies from pump to pump. It's less dangerous to use something like Ignite Orange to supplement your 93.

That doesn't matter. If the JB4 has power, the JB4 has power. Use a volt meter and make sure it's getting power.
