I received the lowcoolant message this past week at 20k. I freaked a little thinking there was a leak. No signs of one but I just had the last free Toyota care service done 3 weeks ago and they “topped everything off”. I took it back in and Toyota said the engine coolant reservoir took a “cup”...
No code was thrown which was stranger for it being empty and having the sensor on it since it’s the larger tank. Do you recommend any specific aftermarket cap? Thanks
That doesn't sound good, residue can indicate a small leak but it shouldn't be empty, did the car throw up a code or a message on the dash about lowcoolant?
I have the stock cap, no residue, but I think most guys are getting aftermarket ones when replacing.
My 2022 3.0 had white residue on/around my larger coolant. I checked my larger coolant tank and it was basically empty. The smaller tank was still filled to the max. The car has 25k. I see people replacing the coolant cap it seems to fix the issue. Are people replacing with another OEM cap or...
That's strange - I never heard of that process before.
I just go with the 'MAX' level in the larger reservoir of the two, but always with the car totally cold.
Hey Guys, got a lowcoolant notification the other day and wanted to double check what the procedure is for topping it off. I see in the manual that we just top off the reservoir and cap it, but the actually coolant bottle from BMW specifies to run the engine with the coolant cap off until it...
I can’t look ? again. That car is too precious. CU Later Grey with beige interior (I’d pay over sticker for that ? - blasphemy). I‘m so glad that wasn’t out in 2022. I hope you can find one similar!
Making me think I need to insure my aftermarket goodies. Too much to try and pull out. What a...
Boring maintenance stuff I had been putting off for a while...
- Put some air in the tyres, the cold has suddenly come so they were .1 bar too low.
- Refilled washer fluid.
- Cleaned exhaust tips.
- Checked coolant level.
- Quick wipe down of engine bay with a damp cloth.
- Put her on the CTEK...
Sound advice. I had a similar issue with an Evo X but had been regularly sampling my engine oil. Fluid levels looked fine but there was some low floating exhaust smoke on warmup. Turns out I had small amounts of sodium and potassium beginning to appear in my oil samples. Small leak but I...
No cel, and I just ran the codes, nothing at all. I’ve only been able to put about 50 miles on it. It definitely smokes all the time, but I’m thinking it’s coolant now that I’m kind of out of my panic state haha. The coolant level is low in the big tank. There doesn’t seem to be any mixing in...
There's more to it than that. I.E. in my last track car I used Evan's waterless coolant. While the operating temperature was technically higher, that was okay because, with no water in the system, You don't get the pressures, expansion, and air / vapor pockets, or hot spots that You get with...
Another thing I have seen @edyvw and others say is that climate does not matter when selecting grade oil. I have mixed feelings about this because devil is in the details. What I think they mean is that unless your cold start temp is super low, where the oil will not flow, the oil is excessively...
last week i noticed a "coolantlow - refill" warning ... naturally i topped up then set about finding the reason.... and again "its a typical BMW issue" the rubber on the cap had pinched so venting over a period of time .... a bit of silicone and a cleanup fixed it.
but .. i also checked the...
I got a lowcoolant notification today and checked the levels so I bought the HT-12 coolant online just waiting to come in.
question is do I just mix 50/50 with diluted water and top off or do I need e the system ?
quick update. Thank you guys for chiming in. Looks like in my case it was just low. Took about a quarter of coolant and no issues since. Odd that it used up that much.
yea I had the warning and it was pretty low. no leaks anywhere. I topped it off twice and kept checking for a few days and it seemed to have leveled off and stayed full. check levels often and keep some coolant nearby.
Thanks for the fast response. Was really sad and nervous about it. ill take a look at the levels later tonight. Hope it is just a little low and no further issues. ::fingers crossed::
It happened to me a while back. I checked the coolant anyways and surely enough it was a little low so I topped it off. Haven’t had the issue since and I check the levels every now and then. Double check your coolant cap and that it isn’t allowing the coolant to evaporate out
