There are posts on the BMW forums of this same issue...some have had it fixed by replacing the upper steering column mechanism. Others have taken it to the dealership only to have it diagnosed as a faulty rack...replaced and still have the issue.
I only lubricated the pins. The tape goes on the backings, so you wouldn't want to apply anything else there. The idea is that the tape keeps the pad snug against the piston. That's why it's a PITA to get tha factory pads off.
You may want to use some transfer tape. This is what I used, in order to keep the pads from cluncking around:

Since you have bronze wheels, I think that either white or black will look sharp, for those are the only two colors that will go with any other color combination. I voted white, since you have a white car and the calipers will "pop". Black is a close second, for they will blend in and carry...

Glad you figured it out, but the endlinks would've been the first things I would have checked, for they are a weak spot in the suspension and are designed that way, to protect the other components from failure. It is especially important to check them from time to time, if you have upgraded...
Interesting, for I've been trying to get Toyota to do a proper diagnosis of my driver side subwoofer distortion, since I purchased the car. The first dealer replaced the speaker, but that didn't fix the issue...the problem is with the Amp or wiring. The subwoofer bounces up and down, like it's...
This sounds like an awesome opportunity to visit paradise, take your pick of Supras ( quite possibly at a discount), have it shipped to the mainland, and enjoy a break-in drive home...just say'n.
I'm noticing the ticking sound every time I'm in the car now...used to be intermittent. I may bring it up with the dealership, but I hate the thought of them having to take apart the dash in order to get to a faulty actuator, or whatever is causing the sound?
