Hello everyone. New here to the forum. I have a 2021 3.0l with 800 miles and I recently noticed an odd ticking or maybe tapping/clicking noise while in the car towards the dash when it is not in motion. It's very faint, and if you had the radio on, you wouldn't be able to hear it. I popped the hood and I don't seem to notice it when outside the car. I'd also add that it was relatively chilly outside when I started to notice it. I've heard the fuel injectors for the BMW 3.0 liter are loud. Could that be it?

Thanks!

I have the same noise. It does seem to come and go.

Did you have your climate control on at the time? The servos and dampers will make some faint noise as they adjust, which they will do frequently in the AUTO setting.

It was in the auto setting, but it seemed constant, not just occasionally doing it. Going to go for a drive today to see if I hear it again.

Just got back from a drive and noticed a couple of things: 1. It seems to be coming more from the drivers side & 2. I can't hear it when I roll the window down. I'm starting to think it's just the sound at idle? It's super faint, and doesn't always seem to be noticeable. I've heard the B58 engines are on the noisy side. Any truth to this?

if it's the engine noise you should be able to hear outside the car, park with the hood up and see if you can hear the same noise under the hood

I have had the same noise from time to time...usually at startup. Mine is a ticking that is constant, in the dash, near the center display. It usually goes away after a few minutes and it doesn't happen all the time. I tried turning off the vents, but the noise persisted. It's almost like something electronic is trying to do something and ends up timing out, after a few attempts...very strange.

I did park it and pop the hood. Couldn't hear it specifically. Doesn't seem loud enough to hear above the actual engine idle.

Same noise for me

tapping sound in the dash or gauge cluster area can’t pin point it.

just sounds like faint tapping it’s in the car for sure

I'm noticing the ticking sound every time I'm in the car now...used to be intermittent. I may bring it up with the dealership, but I hate the thought of them having to take apart the dash in order to get to a faulty actuator, or whatever is causing the sound?

Once heard, it cannot be unheard.. mine does it too since the beginning.

At least it's not a high pitched squeal like on some of the old 370Z's ECU's.
