2020 Supra Trunk Stuck Issue

So a couple weeks ago I had my trunk suddenly stop opening. Used the trunk plenty and never had issue but after some research to see if this is a common issue, it seems like the emergency release handle got stuck the last time I closed the trunk and now the trunk is broken. Took it to Toyota dealership today and got quoted over $2000 to fix it- seems like they want to replace the entire back assembly and lock system in the trunk. Posting to see if anyone has been able to fix this issue without a huge bill and what parts were needed- most of the posts I see all still have warranty which usually is able to cover this fix but my Toyota warranty has expired. Would love any advice/help.

Its a pain but I’m sure you can do it yourself. The biggest hurdle is squeezing back there and trying to get at the emergency handle cable to pull it.

If more people did this simple mod it would save many headaches.
