Hi guys, haven't been on forum for more than half a year.. Finally got the car back from its final upgrade. Posting this for your reference and future mods/tune.
As you may know, I've cloned & unlocked my 21 ECU, and also helped with a couple of members here to get theirs done. Now it's finally tuned by AMS via Ecutek. It's a customized track tune for roadcourses, as the car is built for track days and time attacks. The result is amazing. The car is a beast, linear and managable. Here's the readings on hub dyno:
We did 4 maps:
MS109 - 600whp target (Kill Map)
93 - 500whp target (Main pump gas tune)
93 - 400whp target (OEM +)
93 - 350whp target (valet mode?)
AMS said that since it's hub dyno, it reads 6-7% lower than dynojet. I don't care because it drives really good.
My review:
The 500 whp is my main trackday, daily map. It is so perfectly tuned, that I do not feel the common complain of turbo lack. Of course on track you rarely go below 4k rpm, so power is always there. AMS tuned the automatic really good. It is so much more responsive than stock, going down gears, getting into the peak torque zone and etc. I'm still adapting my manual shifting to this new tune. When it does kick in, boy is it intense, wave after wave of power. When stock at 120 mph acceleration is about done, now it's just started. From 100 - 130+ is a blast. Going from 30 mph is also a lot more violent. You really feel the 500 ish lb-ft torque pulling this small car forward. Recently drove a tesla model S P100D and although the Supra is not exactly that violent, I think the it is up there, also it's the ease of getting the speed up that really impresses me. On high way, right now doing 90mph is below 2k rpm. Everything is so easy on the 500 whp map. I have yet to try the MS109 map, but this 500whp on 93 is worth every bit of effort for putting this car together.
The 400 whp map, though close to OEM, is a lot more responsive. The car felt like it's unlocked, a lot more lively, felt like in stock lots of thing is holding it back. Interestingly, at lower speed and RPM it felt quite similar to 500 whp, it's only at higher end you notice that it reserves power.
What I didn't do:
With the car's current mod, all I need is to build Pure Trans stage 1 and adding Port Injection, then AMS can tune it up to 700 on MS109. The car already has Radium surge tank installed, so PI is easy work. The reason I didn't do it is because I think at its current stage, it is my sweet spot. Adding more power not only increase cost, but also incurs reliability concern. Meth may be necessary at that power level for sustained track runs, which is another thing to manage. PI is great but it is another point of potential failure. Right now, as PhD Racing's team said, my car is the max reliability build.
It maxed out Direct Injection and OEM trans with Kill Map, and leaves enough leeway for the 500whp 93 map, which is the car's main map. Not only reliability, but longevity is also considered with this route. Follow its journey at my IG: czzisaman. I might be interested in selling the car by the end of this season. So lemme if you may be interested too.
Special thanks to PhD Racing, Jackie, Alex and Allen for handling everything about this car.
