First hand Review: DarwinPro Aero BKSSII Wing for Toyota Supra
I recently purchased the DarwinPro Aero BKSSII wing for my A90 Supra, and my experience with both the product and the company has been very disappointing.
In my case, the wing exhibited significant flex and instability. It felt flimsy, appeared to be made from materials that lacked rigidity, and produced little to no noticeable downforce. The amount of flex observed did not inspire confidence, especially considering that excessive wing flex is generally understood to be undesirable for aerodynamic performance.
When I contacted DarwinProās customer service to address these concerns, the response was contradictory. Initially, I was told the issue must have been due to an improper installation. After providing proof that the wing had been installed by a professional shop, I was then informed that such flex was ānormal.ā It was unclear how the problem could simultaneously be attributed to installation error and also considered normal behavior for the product. It one email pictured they say the base and side stands are thick enough but further below they admit itās the side stands not being rigid enough. See that email below.
After further discussion, the company stated they wanted to work things out, so I removed my initial critical reviews as a gesture of good faith. However, the proposed solution required that I pay to remove the wing, pay to ship it back, purchase a stronger version for an additional $2300, and then pay again for installationāleaving me responsible for all additional costs and risks if the replacement performed similarly.
Based on this experience, the feedback I received from others, and the lack of a reasonable resolution, I ultimately chose to return the product and request a refund. Of course they donāt accept refunds once the product has been installed. How would one know about these issues if it werenāt installed? So I filed a chargeback based on false advertising. They claim their products increase aerodynamics but they donāt use wind tunnels or any kind of testing to make such claims. They misrepresent their products as āpro aeroā but thereās no wind tunnel data to support it.
They then changed tune and agreed to a refund if I dropped the chargeback. Unfortunately, the refund does not cover shipping, installation costs, or the repairs now needed for the holes drilled into my trunk. They told me they would refund me as soon as they received tracking, but quickly changed their stance after I provided tracking information. A dishonest move that let me know they were not trying to help me.
Fedex says they were unable to deliver the wing after multiple attempts and us calling twice to verify the address. Darwin claims they use FedEx drivers daily so this is another red flag. FedEx still has the wing somewhere at this point in time. They will not reattempt delivery without another payment. Darwin wants me to pay another hundred dollars to ship it despite them not taking it previously. Seeing as how they lied about the refund twice I canāt risk spending any more money for them.
So Iām out almost 2k total, I have no wing and two holes in my trunk.
While this is only my personal experience, it has been overwhelmingly negative. For these reasons, I cannot recommend the BKSSII wing or DarwinPro Aero as a company. See the pics below. The video of me closing the trunk shows how much the wing flops, it does this every second of driving any speed over 40mph and gets worse as you go faster.
