I may be asking a dumb question here but...

Is it actually taking longer than it should for us to get our cars, or does it just seem that way given that some LE's have been on the street for a month, the anticipation and hype of the Supra finally coming back, and just general impatience because we can't wait to have this awesome thing?

It does seems like its been somewhat of a logistical nightmare getting the cars stateside from Austria and then getting hung up at port, and even once the ones that have made it to dealerships don't always have the correct BMW software tools readily available to PDI/ready them up before delivery.

Live in NC and looking to buy a premium in the next 2 months.

Any thoughts? Curious to see if I'm being impatient or unreasonable haha
The expectation was set by Toyota. The official launch date of 7/22 and the first 1500 US models would be the launch edition. Premium and base to follow the launch editions in the fall. Cars have shown up randomly to dealers with no PDI tools. Quality hold ups at the port was unexpected but glad Toyota caught whatever issues they found to correct. No good communication from Toyota or dealers about the delays.
And everyone wanting to get their car within a reasonable timeframe to start enjoying. Any other thoughts? My car is expected next week at my dealer with a build date of 5/19/19. Red LE

Think I would have built all the launch models and had them shipped to dealers ready to go for the launch date of whatever it needed to be.
7/22 Toyota was not not ready to sell the car with little to no inventory. Awesome I can buy my car that’s not at the dealership and wait months with no info to get it!!! The quality holds I think threw a monkey wrench into the plan. But doesn’t excuse dealers not having their PDI tools when the car got there.

I’m still excited to get my car next week even after all the pain of waiting!!!

Two things:

Magna Steyr probably can’t build as fast as Toyota, hence not having tons of cars for launch (plus they have to build some Z4s). I’ve seen plenty of new Z4s and aside from YouTube and some dealer visits, no Supras.

My dealer told me that cars are intentionally held and shipped in batches - not sure where this happens (Austria, US distribution, etc...) He showed me a screen that had the designation/code for such a hold - I think it was f1 or something.

Was given my VIN earlier in the week and was told "sometime in mid to late September" for delivery. @darkloki hooked me up with the details on my car (much appreciated). Looks like my vehicle will arrive at the dealer in a few days. Super stoked!

It's not production constraint at Magna. Many of the cars people are waiting for were built in May, shipped, and then sat in a US port all this time. For whatever reason, Toyota is trickling them out to dealers. Even many LE models, which were all supposed to reach customers on 7/22, were held back and some still are delayed. Rumors include defects, issues with window stickers, inventory issues with port accessories, etc. Many dealers haven't been adequately prepared for the Supra, so even when the cars arrive there are delays and snafus.

The launch has not been smooth if you ask me. I saw someone suggest maybe Toyota was trying to build demand/hype, but there have been too many goofups for that to be true. It has not been well orchestrated like it would be if they were trying to control demand.

I found a Turbulence Grey at Springfield Toyota in Springfield, VA. Also wanted $10K over MSRP. He was supposed to check to see if they’d waive it since I had a deal for MSRP elsewhere and the sales guy ghosted me. Said he’d call back in 15 minutes. That was last Thursday evening... LOL

My dealer just informed me that the delivery timetable is moving up. They got a car today that wasn’t due for another 2 weeks and the expected eta for my car is moved up about 2 weeks. The car made it to Newark yesterday.

If you’re waiting, it might make sense to ping your dealer.

Big nod of appreciation to @darkloki ! He was spot on with the delivery of my vehicle to the dealer. The dealer called, emailed and texted me that it just came in off the truck. Won't be getting it today or tomorrow due to the hurricane. It'll be waiting for me on Saturday. Woo hoo!! Super stoked!
