old Max is back….. honestly though, he will go down as one of the greatest F1 drivers ever. But when his car isn’t the dominant car out there he does have issues. So many complain about how Lewis “cries” over the radio but I notice on my other forum none has said a thing yet about the RB radio today. The incident with Lewis I believe was just a racing incident. states he braked at the same point as previous laps but was going faster that time and just got in a bit to fast, then Lewis turning I. I’m sure he tried to avoid and locked up. Slow motion makes it look like it was sooo avoidable, real time it’s so quick never had time to react. Just racing..

Had he let him by immediately, he'd have had 10+ laps to pass Oscar, instead of 2.
I was wondering that the whole time. Why not let him by then pass him, Lando for sure had the faster car the last stint. They definitely have the fastest car on the grid I’d say now. Ferrari shit the bed as usual, Merc probably #3.

Stroll…. Wow beat Alonzo again. He hasn’t had a good time this year. I saw him throwing a fit yesterday but didn’t get the context? I wasn’t able to watch quali but saw Perez bin it again and Russell out at Q1 then Alonzo throwing his Aston gear on the ground.

Well Lewis said after the race he felt it was a racing incident with Max and him coming together and the FIA/Stewards agreed as there was no further action. Lewis used the same or similar line that he did on previous laps, but Max just missed his braking point, came in too fast, and they came together. The good thing is that both were able to continue.

It shouldn't because I'm sure at some point in the near future the shoe will be on the other foot and he will be appreciative that he chose the right thing.
I don’t know, Lando passed on a GP win when he was the fastest on track. Those don’t come around often.

Again, literally the only reason Lando was ahead was because the team was worried they'd lose P2 and pitted him first. It was not a move to give him the win, it was a move to secure P1&2. It was made clear at the time that the order was not going to change. Oscar was leading handedly for the majority of the race, and I would think had they chose to pit Oscar first and risked losing P2 that Oscar would have kept P1 regardless of how fast Lando was at the end. If you didn't already notice, it's one thing to catch a driver on this track, it's a much different thing to pass.

There was even a point prior to that last pit stop where the team said it was okay for Lando to push and try to pass Oscar in a fair way, but Lando could not make up enough ground.

In the end, taking away Oscars first win, damaging the relationship of two drivers and the team was not worth it. There would have been huge consequences after the race that could have started a rift in the team that would lead to one of the drivers to leave McLaren and that would be a massive loss. They have the best young driver combo on the grid, to keep those two together will ensure McLaren will be in a good spot. Lose one and they will be in a tough spot.

I know why they called for the swap, and I never saw the Mercedes threatening for 2nd either so long as there were no weird happenings.
The race was between Max and Lewis for 3rd after Lewis got by Sainz at the start.
…and that was an amazing race for 3rd we were treated to!

Weird race strategy wise. RedBull got it completely wrong with Max, who in turn had to be way too aggressive to make up for it, not impressed with his driving, or his radio calls today, and McLaren putting their drivers in a difficult and completely avoidable situation was ridiculous.
Our boy Max shit the bed imo. Things won‘t always be perfect. Which is easy for me to say but… he’s got to block it out. If he could, he’s such a better driver.

Why didn’t McLaren just send them both in at the same time or Oscar in 1st?!? That would have avoided the whole situation of putting Oscar at the disadvantage. I loved seeing Oscar win ?

I just wish my wife would have stuck around till the end. She was convinced Lewis turned into Max, causing that collision. I explained that it was just hard racing. Max probably would have done the same. Oh boy…. she was done after that ?

Max completely outbraked himself. It was a desperate move out of frustration. Lewis could've possibly avoided it, but I don't think it was intentional. Lewis had nothing to gain by intentionally hitting Max and could've lost his own podium spot if the car was damaged. The fact Max was able to go on at all was a surprise to me. I thought for sure after that flight the car would be broken.

You have to understand, in the heat of the race McLaren was very much so concerned that Lewis/Max do the under cut and find enough pace to get ahead of Lando, it wasn't a concern with Oscar due to how much further ahead he was. Had they chose to pit Oscar first, you would have saw Lewis and Max a lot closer to Lando when he pit. So they played it safe and at the same time made it crystal clear to both drivers that the order would stay the same. They allowed Lando to "race" with Oscar prior to that and Lando could not catch up to Oscar.

Honestly, I don't know how you and your wife aren't very disappointed with how Max was talking both during and after the race. Not to mention when things aren't going perfect he turns into a completely different person on the track doing stupid crap.

Had Lewis been negatively impacted by that collision with Max, they would have penalized him. It's like in the NBA, refs will sometime wait to see if the basket is made before calling the foul, if the basket is made they let it slide but if it's missed they blow the whistle and call the foul. While in this case Max was "penalized" enough by taking him out of the running for 3rd and 4th.

Looks like a 10 placer for Max at Spa.

and if the rumors are true that the FIA found some illegal parts on the RB, explaining the drop off from both RBs, then it’ll be interesting to see how he comes through the pack. Could be an epic race.

Appreciate the explanation. I didn’t realize the undercut would make that much of a difference for 2nd place. My wife loves everything RB. She was frustrated with Perez the day before. But in general, she a better team sport person than I am.

Some peeps are more outgoing like Lewis. Some are quiet like Oscar. And some are not as socially extroverted, like Max. We’re okay with that. I think his answers are usually to the point and not full of a lot of fluff. I kinda prefer that over getting the feeling like the driver has to push the product (themselves) to the interviewer (us).

Feel bad for Bearman. Gotta suck having to start your F1 career dealing with a petulant child for a teammate.
I think Ocon is quicker than KMag but I do question the logic of putting a talented rookie on the same team as him.
