Yes ideally George would have backed out and let Lewis by, but I don’t think he was paying as much attention to Lewis as he was Max. After that point though, you have to admit he drove a very good recovery race.

You mention the heat and FIA should do something, well thinking about the other big open wheel racing league, Indy Car will mandate a little wing on the top of their car that directs some air onto the driver, if the heat is at a certain level. I think that F1 could do the same, but it would have to be mandated. Something from the past that you might not know about, years ago F1 cars had a little vent that let air pass through and hit the drivers, but drivers found out if they put their hand over this vent it impacted drag and they could go faster on straights. So they got rid of it due to drivers taking their hands off the wheel while driving down straights at very high speeds.
George always drives well. But he's definitely not as experienced or as composed as Lewis and is he trying to makeup for it. I dunno. I could be perceiving him wrong.

As far as that heat, two hours is pretty damn grueling under those conditions (for pulling g's, concentration, muscle fatigue). To see someone like Oscar and Max on the ground afterwards speaks volumes. It was like watching a UFC fight that went too far. Stroll and a few others went to the medics after the race. And Sargent looked like he was going pass out driving back to pit lane, the way he was driving. I can't imagine the FIA letting this happen again?

Another great result for McLaren which makes me happy. The little fist-bump between the papaya drivers after the race shows they're in a good place as teammates. No hard feelings and Lando light-heartedly questioned team orders but eventually let Piastri have his day. Lando closed to within a second of Piastri to show that he COULD challenge, then backed off to save his tires. Piastri showed he deserves his seat.

I think Lewis was at fault for the turn 1 crash. He went super deep under braking and tried to cut things a little too close to George. Despite those screen grabs of George's steering angle, I don't think he had any fault in the crash. Watch it in real time and he's not out of line. He had no way to see Lewis going deep on his left and could not have predicted a car trying to go around the outside that early. I think Lewis just went too hard because he was worried about his red tires and paid the price. Throughout the race you saw other drivers unsuccessful trying to overtake around the outside of Turn 1, but it was because they gave the inside car space.

If I'm honest, it's about time Lewis ended up on the wrong side of a wheel to wheel. He's usually the one hooking his front into the other car's rear tire and spinning them out. *ALBON*
Maybe a bit of karma?

I don't care for Russell, he's always jabbering on the radio about strategy like he knows something, right before he screws up.
He was not at fault though, and afterwards drove a very well recovery race. Perez in a similar situation couldn't get further than tenth, yet again proving it's Max that makes the difference in that team. The RB19 is super fast, if driven correctly, which Perez obviously can't.
Think Lewis just misjudged where George was. He saw an opportunity to get on Max's left side which would be the inside for turn 2. Silly Racing Incident, but an incident nonetheless.

Anyone got a prediction for this weekend?

how about an aggressive pit strategy from Aston Martin for Alonzo, Stroll crashes to bring out a safety car at the right time, Alonzo wins his first race for Aston Martin!
Well it could happen right?
Sounds like a plan, Flavio!

i believe Lewis already apologized to Russell and team. true champion like behavior unlike someone who said "he deserves it." after one's aggression.
Was that before or after he got on the radio saying he got taken out by his teammate ?

That "champion-like" behavior only seems to come out when the TV camera's are on him.

I think MB should have talked strategy prior to turn 1. Hope Toto can get those guys to work together in the future.

Max can do it all! Still, I don’t want to see him or anyone else push under those conditions. Anyone think RB was once looking at Lando is now looking at Oscar, smacking their lips? Max sitting on the ground with Oscar post race, “I’m with ya little buddy” “Ready to be my teammate?” ?

Funny thing is, they did! MB thought there were going to be more people on softs. Don't know why, they were awful as we saw in the Sprint. But MB have never been good at two things. Strategy, and pit stops.

Oscar just extended his contract, and he's quickly on his way to become the nr1 at McLaren, so he ain't moving anytime soon. If Norris gets his ass handed to him next season, which I think he will, he'll be looking to move.

You realize that literally every driver has this type of comment during a race or season. Wasn't it just last week when Alonso said he was "thrown to the wolves". You just don't see it from the mid pack/back half of the grid because the coverage is always favored toward the bigger names.

Considering that Oscar is under control for longer than Lando, I'd say that RB is likely keeping tabs on both but realistically would pursue Lando first. I'm actually hopeful that RB can take someone from their development program/teams to replace Perez. Someone like Yuki or Lawson. Maybe Danny Ric if they feel like they would rather have someone consistent who agrees that Max is the number one and will always sacrifice for his teammate.
