Maybe it's a typo? "Most cursed at"
Did a quick Google, apparently there was a first race and Monza "curse" Max "broke". After 2016 the winner of the first race would NOT be Champion that year, and if you win Monza one year, you won't win it the year after, both of which Max did in 2023 apparently ?‍♂

As far as curses go, those are pretty stupid.

Yeah, facts are annoying that way huh ?
When guys like Gerhard Berger, who was Senna's teammate says Max is the best, or Jenson Button, a WDC who's been teammates with Alonso AND Hamilton, that Max has the most talent on the grid.

Don't take my word for it, take theirs. Or stay biased lol.
It’s hard to talk facts over bias. Despite it being pretty obvious that no one else can wield that top RB car to the level that Max can. Even when he was winning almost every race - Checo was driving into the back of people, way behind or hitting walls. I’ve heard heavily biased British journalist slip up and say how special/unique it is that Max can drive on the edge so well and what he‘s able do with that car (when winning). But that doesn’t happen often. I get it, they love their own peeps & have a core audience to make happy. I just wish I could watch a less UK biased version. It is what it is….

I‘m also not a fan of Lewis fake Hamming it up when off track - especially speaking to the fans ?. Most people love those PR skills. It’s just not my thang. Max appears to be more driving focused and less about the F1 business. What you see is what you get. Again, I like that more honest approach. But that’s not why I watch or even what impresses me about a driver. I like em both (and the others) for their driving skills. Maybe Norris, Oscar or Kimi will be the next Max Verstappen ?‍♂. Until then, I’ll keep enjoying what he’s able to do while he’s still willing to race in F1 - keep others on their toes or dominate ?.

Generally, in the UK, most F1 fans support a team first and a driver second - so even people have a negative view of Max, (or anyone else for that example) they will still tend to hold a more nuanced team view.

Three quarters of the teams are based in England; as a result there is a huge sense of goodwill towards them...sod the drivers! ?:p

A good example of this is when McLaren won at Miami - hundreds of people made the trip to Woking wait for the roundabout to light up orange! :nixon:

We’re the same way. I asked my wife (setting her up for knowing Max wasn’t going to be able to cut through the Monaco train ?), “who‘s your 2nd fav driver?”. She said Yuki ofc. So that changed quickly (from Checo & Liam) ?. We want to go to a race at the Red Bull Ring or Zandvoort and sit in the orange section, the whole nine yards. We no longer like McLaren now that they’re beating RB, lol, but like both drivers. I totally get it!!

I guess that's too bad for you eh? McLaren will run away with the Manufacturers Championship and my bet is that Oscar and Lando end up 1st and 2nd in the Driver's Championship. But Max still has a chance, and it's not his fault that he isn't winning as much this year. We'll see if Red Bull can get it's act together and improve their car.

BTW, I took the Supra out to the Sanibel Causeway for a sunset (that didn't happen). Too many clouds on the horizon... maybe next time...

Beautiful pic ? & distraction… Are you allowed to drive on there??? ?

Back to my dilemma. Keeping my wife watching with me ?. Both McLaren drivers are great guys and I do like the team. Just not if they are in RB or Max’s way of making history. Kudos to them for getting everything right this year. You’re right that RB could obviously be doing more or they’d be in 1st place. Makes ya wonder what would happen if they all had the same car? Such as in some of the other series. I happen to think Max would come out on top. Probably why he wants to do it as well, eventually. If he was in the more tempered baby (cash app) bulls, I bet he’d be faster than Liam or Hajar (the new guy). I also think most drivers would agree that Max would be the toughest to beat from interviews that I’ve seen. Regardless, no disrespect to or for McLaren. I just want them to be behind Max ?.

If he can’t come out on top, I’ll still enjoy watching him wring out every inch of talent/speed he can get out of that car. I was really hoping Yuki had the secrete sauce to do the same or even come close. It doesn’t’ seem like anyone can at this point ?. So drivers championship hopes are still on. Put me in that orange section!! LOL

Will it be close this weekend? I hope so. Maybe we’ll even get some rain and Max can drive away with it. Or the McLaren boys will fight it out and help Max gain some points that way ?‍♂ Either way, I’ll continue to enjoy watching him and others try to keep up (or not screw up - in McLaren’s case). Cheers

Yes, you can park along the Causeway. I Photoshop out the posts and rope that line the parking area. I'm always looking for cool places to take photos... and if I can include the Supra, all the better! I hope they have a photographer at Barber when I go for my track day.

I understand how you feel about Max. It seems that it's often the case that the best driver in F1 ends up with a great team as well. Schumacher with Ferrari, Vettel with Red Bull Hamilton with Mercedes and Max with Red Bull. As Max's career starts to fade, maybe Oscar or Lando end up being the champion over several seasons with McLaren.

What I really want to see in an F1 race, is a variety of drivers and teams compete for wins and have some close racing rather than see one person run away with the win all the time. That's what I haven't liked about the past few seasons. Elaine and I end up watching the race for 2nd or 3rd as Max would run away with the win. Now, at least, the competition is at the very front. Any given track, any given weekend, there are 6 or 7 drivers and 4 teams that are all potentially in the hunt. Like Russell qualifying with the exact same lap time as Max, or Charles chasing Lando at Monaco or Hamilton winning the Sprint race at China. And this weekend those top 7 drivers are all within 0.585 seconds apart. Take out Oscar and the remaining 6 are less than 0.4 secnds apart. You almost can't blink that fast!

In our house, on F1 weekends, we have breakfast (most weekends) while we watch the race. One year Elaine even did our F1 meal to go along with whatever country they were racing in. But that got kind of crazy. Now it's just some form of bacon & eggs which is not a breakfast we would normally eat at home.

Well said! Though I wouldn’t mind Max running away with it and watching the rest below fight it out for 2nd ?. Should be a good race today regardless. You and Elaine will have a blast no doubt! The fight between Lando & Oscar should be good. And who knows… maybe Max can give em another sneaky move at turn one. But that’s probably about it, if the pace remains that much greater for McLaren.

I’ll be working today. So have to watch it tonight when I get home ?… it should be a good one. Especially if Max can keep dragging that RB up there & maybe even get on the podium.

Poor Yuki btw. I really felt for him ?. He looked gutted. Both commentators on the F1 channel were great, talking about everything we’ve been saying on here. Why you don’t set up the cars differently for two different people. How Lewis should learn to just drive (and adapt to) the Ferrari more quickly. Same for YukI I suppose. But damn, that 2nd RB seat is looking cursed. How long before they throw Hajar in there?? I saw Bottas on the sidelines and was thinking, he’s available, grab him ?

Well DannyV and FL, what did you think of Max’s actions on the track today?

I’m sure Danny will have some explanations, anger is no excuse to drive into another car deliberately.

This is one of the main reasons why some people don’t view Max in the best light. The second that things aren’t going his way he goes full “bad Max” driving like a complete asshat and lashing out at literally everyone.

WTF just happened, omg.
RedBull putting Max on a hards was suicide. Why wouldn't you keep him on the used softs? He'd have lead the race with at least a fighting chance.

Then the wheel banging with Leclerc and Russell....

The turn 1 was close fighting, but WTF was that in turn 5?

Makes no sense.

Right on cue, Skidmark appears. Max does good, he's nowhere to be found.
