The worst F1 drivers go to Indy to win. Look at Rossi, Erickson and so on. If he's already bad in Indy, he'll be eaten alive in F1 and F2. Like, it's going to be a slaughter.

Anybody have any thoughts they would like to share about Colton Herta going from IndyCar to Cadillac F1 test driver and F2 competitor?

Personally, I don't think he has been doing very well in IndyCar the last couple of years. Being the Cadillac test driver is no big deal. Any good driver could do that job. Besides, if Cadillac needs him for an F1 role as a fill in driver, who would notice the difference? I think Caddy will be very much a back marker in 2026. So Herta will finish at the back along with whatever teammate he runs with.

I hate being so down on Cadillac. I wish and hope the best for them. But I don't think they are really ready to be anything but behind the curve while they are just getting started. I'd be thrilled to see it go otherwise, but I really don't expect it to happen.
I tend to think it makes sense for Herta to go to F2 at this point in his career if he truly desires getting on the F1 grid. As you pointed out he hasn't been good enough to get a straight to F1 seat, even for a new F1 team. This isn't really much of a step back for Herta, and in some ways it'll greatly increase his chances of getting on the F1 grid.

Any new team in F1 should ALWAYS expect to struggle in their first season, no matter how many good employees and drivers they get, it's always a major challenge. The good news is they signed two experience drivers who will help them hit the ground running, and with the regulations changing there should be some opportunities to surprise other teams.

I don't think you're "down on" Cadillac, it's just being realistic. Just being on the F1 grid for a team is a major accomplishment, so anything above that will be icing on the cake in their first season.

It’s like Déjà vu again. I remember all the talk how HAAS will be a joke and back markers and then come in and finished 8 out of 11 teams 2 years in a row then 5th. Then because a joke.. ok ok they were pretty much a secondary Ferrari team with a Dallara chassis. BUT it could happen again? Especially with the huge reg changes?

nah they will most likely be back markers with reliability issues first 2 years at least.

And Herta is going to get mopped in F1 or F2. I personally would like to see Pato O’Ward or Alex Palou in a F1 car for a couple real tests and see how they stack up.

I agree! I'd like to see Alex do just an FP1 for McLaren. At least we'd have a benchmark.

Max showing once again there's nobody in his class on the grid. If he had the performance of the McLaren's all year, he'd repeat 2023.
Speaking of McLaren, what an absolute joke. A real Champion would've laughed at McLaren's team orders and gone faster. What a disgrace. How is it Oscar's problem that McLaren fumbled the pit stop? The fact they even asked was laughable, but that Oscar listened, blew my mind. Ridiculous. If Max, Schumacher, Senna, even Hamilton would've been in that position, they'd have said "not my problem" and set the fastest lap time immediately after.

look Every one knows here you don’t like the Brits. If Osca was 1st car you’d be questioning why Lando was given first stop. Then be saying they should swap positions if it was the other way around. They should’ve stopped Lando first. The TEAM fucked Lando. You can go on all you want about how they prioritize Lando, but they fucked him 2 times in 2 weekends.

How much is Lando’s father paying them?
not to take away from Max’s drive which was pretty flawless and a strong drive from Albon and Hamilton.
…but the papaya team’s drama is interesting to watch. I’m becoming a big Oscar fan.

Uhhhhhh I didn't mention Lando? I said McLaren shouldn't have made the call, I said it's not Oscar's fault McLaren messed up, and I said Oscar shouldn't have listened. So I don't know where you get "I hate all Brits" from. I never mentioned him. It wouldn't have mattered who was were. It was a ridiculous order to make, and even more ridiculous to listen to it. Regardless of who drove in what position. And I didn't say that McLaren prioritize Lando.

Careful, you might get accused of "hating all Brits", but yeah, I agree.

Come on man, you’ve talked more shit about Lewis, Lando and Russell than anyone else on the grid. Constantly. This is about the only place I’ve seen where anyone isn’t questioning the team bringing in Oscar first. They had every right to switch the order back to the way it was before the TEAM fucked him.

I don’t have a bone to pick between Oscar and Lando, if given the choice I’d rather see Lando win over Oscar because he has been with the team longer, he put the trust in there and all. BUT otherwise I’m ok with either winning. Through I’d rather Mercedes win first. I’m not hating on Oscar at all. Just surprised so many in here are acting like the team didn’t cause this to begin with.

I LITERALLY said that McLaren fumbled the stop in my first comment. So I have no idea why you have this fart up your ass. Lando "winning" because he's been with the team longer is the dumbest reason ever. Bad pit stops, broken engines, that's part of the sport. Can happen to anyone, at any time. You think Senna would've let Prost past if they messed up his stop? He'd have laughed and kept going. I don't have an issue with British drivers, I haven't said a thing about Bearman, or Albon. Lewis, George and Lando are just whiney little bitches, that's why I don't like them. I used to like Lando, before he showed himself to be like this. But unlike the FIA, I don't care about their nationality.

I'm not quite sure why everyone is struggling to understand what McLaren did?

Oscar was pitted first to protect his 3rd place from LeClerc, they then fucked up Lando's stop after promising him that he wouldn't get undercut, so made the decision to swap the cars around.

I don't think it's going to make a difference, last weekends DNF has pretty much ensured Lando is 2nd in the WDC.

Oh I understand why they did, I don't understand why Oscar listened. McLaren constantly bail Lando out. During the first race in Australia they told Oscar to not attack Lando because there were back markers. And so on. They proudly tote that they don't do team orders, and that they are free to race, but somehow those orders show up, and in Lando's favor. Oscar deserves to win, and I think you're right, that DNF clinched it, unless Oscar has one too.

The reason you don't understand why Oscar listened and did what he did says a lot about the kind of person you are. Sad to say...

OK, now go ahead and rip me up and prove my point...

Oscar has said on more than one occasion that it's team first, I think he's smart enough to know he has this in the bag, and doing it with the team is the way to go.
