Phone Keypad Locked While Driving

Apparently while driving and on a call in Carplay the keypad is locked out. I've never encountered this on any other car. Is there any way to change this?

“Feature” on 2017+ BMWs.

Carplay has a list of features, each manufacturer is free to choose what they want to enable or disable. This is one of those.
