Long story short, my pops retired 10 years ago from Toyota/Lexus after working for 30 years as a master mechanic and production quality control. Suffice to say, he is an expert and a harsh critic. An inline six specialist/savant. My love for fast cars stems from him.

He recently took at detailed look at my 2020 Supra and boy he pointed out stuff that I have yet to see anyone mention. For example, impressive hard aluminum brackets/aluminum parts, improvements to fuel injection system, throttle body size (bigger), steps taken to improve chasis rigidity, production build number stamps, paint depth/quality, ease of future upgrades , workmanship, etc, etc... He was physically starting to deconstruct my A90, I had to stop him lol.

He thinks the A90 is a worthy successor to the A80 and is blown away by the quality of the build. He likes that they partnered with BMW and says it appears Toyota took steps to improve reliability. Thinks this car is ahead of its time and will become a timeless piece. Typical “Toyota form and style” he says.

Enjoy your cars guys and give them love. They will age well and define our generation.

Thanks! Your Dad is obviously a very smart guy and just made me feel like one for buying my Supra! I am glad his expertise confirms what a fabulous car it truly is. I just love mine and wish I didn't have to keep it in the garage for winter hibernation.

The interesting thing is that a lot of what you mentioned is typical BMW. I crawled all over several Supras, and the resemblance to a BMW, down to nuts and bolts and manufacturing techniques, is pretty much 100%. Toyota may have had a hand in the design and development, but the manufacturing and the hardware is pure BMW.

The truth is, you'll find the same stuff on a 1-series BMW. It's just the way BMW does things. (This is not always better, by the way).

I wonder what things are particularly different/similar in say a 1 series and a a90 supra. We know that Supras (B58 )share BMW parts, but what is it specifically that separates it from say a typical BMW. previous generations of BMW inline six motors had problems with pressurized fuel delivery, wastegate failures and internal sealing issues. Looks like BMW may have benefitted from Toyotas research/quality control, but only time will tell. To the untrained eye the Supra is just another BMW

I'm not worried about the Supra/BMW thing, the Z4 is a over a third more expensive here :)

There are only 40 Supras in this country at present, no idea how many Z4s

I was out taking a picture of my Supra next to my old GT86 today & a couple of Policeman drove past & stopped.

The younger driver asked me "how I liked my BMW"

I laughed I knew from the look on his face he was trying to wind me up :D
