The 2021 News Really Bums Me Out / Buyer's Remorse

I called Toyota Customer Service and asked for the software update for the electronic dampers, differential and steering and they assigned me a case number and told me about TSB #0151-19 "Supra Reprogramming Guide" regarding the ECU Update Flash.

They told me to contact my local dealer which I did and the Service Drive Manager had me speak with the lead Tech that was trained for the Supra. I complained that the car was too soft and not responsive enough. After not getting a call back, I contacted Toyota Customer Service again and they gave me a new case number and told me that I would get a call from a Customer Relations Manager which I did. That person said they would speak with the Tech and also Toyota and ask If I could get the 2021 software update. After not getting a return call for 2 days, I went into the dealership and spoke with the Customer Relations Manager. She introduced me to the Service Director who said he spoke with Ryan Eklund, Field Service Specialist with Toyota and was told that the software would not be made available to 2020 Supra owners. I asked if I could pay for the software and was told "NO". I asked for Ryan's phone number and was told "NO".

I expressed my frustrations with not being able to get the software update and that Toyota is not being reasonable with their "Supra" customers. I mentioned that Tesla has provided software updates to current Model 3 Performance owners, BMW has provided software updates to current M2, M3 and M4 owners (I received one under warranty on my previous M2 for the steering system) and Chevrolet has provided software updates to current C7 Corvette owners.

I don't understand why Toyota will not offer the software update to current 2020 Supra owners. I understand that there will be different bump stops and the addition of strut tower braces but the dampers will probably be the same. If the software is meant to be done in conjunction with those new parts, Toyota should at least offer the complete package to current owners at an additional cost. I would gladly pay to get the update and new parts if they will improve the handling of the car since I use it for autocross and don't want to spend a lot of money on custom shocks which would also void the warranty on the car related to the suspension.

Do you feel your 2020 is too soft? Have you tracked your car? I feel the ride is firm already & personally don't want any firmmer ride. My C7 is much softer on its comfort setting. I'd like to feel difference on 2021 but bet it will definitely ride worse.

I feel the damper rates are fine for the road. There is only so much grip you can get out of street tires anyways. I think the sway bars are too small though. I also feel the damper rates are too soft in sport mode. Part of the problem is there are only two modes (comfort and sport) unlike the C7 which has several modes. Also there is not a separate exhaust button or rpm dial to be able to separately control those functions. No I have not tracked the car. Like I said before, I only autocross the car and the soft and unresponsiveness is mostly prevalent in high transitional sections like slaloms.

China is only just starting to gear back up. Europe and America are where China was almost two months ago without the drive to bite the bullet to shut the virus down. Africa could wind up proper fucked and more niche raw materials roll out of there than most will admit to. Add all that up and production may be delayed or diminished heavily. Couple that with no one spending due to jobs fears and it is looking ugly for the next quarter minimum.

I know this isn’t the answer your looking for, but none of this points to business as usual for a niche luxury good.

Africa could wind up proper fucked and more niche raw materials roll out of there than most will admit to. Add all that up and production may be delayed or diminished heavily. Couple that with no one spending due to jobs fears and it is looking ugly for the next quarter minimum.

I know this isn’t the answer your looking for, but none of this points to business as usual for a niche luxury good.

Oh it is! Here's positive, for most people, Corona is nothing more than a flu. Sick for a few days, and back to normal. Unlike your "end of the world doom and gloom" I'd say that's sunny and positive.

For many, yes. As usual you have a narrow minded outlook. It has a mortality rate of 15% for over 70, 8% for over 60, 4% for over 50 and 1% for over 40. The flu is under 1% for over 65. So how is this like the flu again?

You also don’t quarantine for the young and healthy, you quarantine so the young and healthy don’t get the immune compromised / high risk people sick and overwhelm hospitals.

Italy is having to choose who to put on ventilation and who to deny. These aren’t old people they are having to make that decision on. Italy, and in particular Lombardy, where it is the worst, has a significantly better healthcare system than the US by practically all metrics per the OECD.

China shut down and quarantined 700 million people at one point, but yeah, it is just the flu. I’m glad to hear that they were wrong and costed themselves trillions for nothing. If only they consulted the esteemed virologist Dr. Dannyvandelft.

Here in Europe some countries are putting curfews on people , they leave open only business that are essential for everyday living. Italy has the biggest problem but all of the countries have infected people and goverments take measures. So even if austria by some miracle is not affected at all by these measures , maybe all the parts are not being made in austria. Btw first time in my life i have experienced something like this , everything is closed , work from home etc.

Expect delays. Even crossing the boarder between canada and US means possible 14 day quarantine. I doubt shipping companies are willing to take that risk and get themselves quarantined to get a few cars shipped.

There was someone in this forum who works for toyota and has to work from home now.

Yes, right now. The cars aren't due till June. No telling what the situation will be in 3 months.

I hope you get your car when you want it, I truly do. I’m busy telling customers with damn near unlimited pockets they are SOL in regards to lead times right now.
