Thought I would share my experience with my insurance and dealership after totaling my car.

Was fully covered with Progressive. They were very helpful and easy to file a claim with. The loss happened 22AUG at around 0330, and they handled coordinating a tow truck to get my car to the yard. Paid out about a week later. Like most people noted on here, aftermarket parts were paid back pennies on the dollar. I talked to them about exchanging the parts for OEM, and they said the scrapyard usually is okay with it, but to give them a call. I did, and they are going to hold it for me until I get some time to do it.

Now for the surprisingly good experience shopping for a new supra. Called down to Mike Shaw Toyota because they had a 2026 listed at 61k. Carbon fiber mirror caps, cargo mat, window tint all included. Told them I would make the 9.5 hour drive down to pick it up. Salesman, Joe, said that he could meet me halfway, instead. So a quick 5 hour drive later, I was in a new stratosphere blue supra for 65 OTD. Whole process took 3 days from first call to picking up the car.

Lessons Learned:
Aftermarket parts are worth nothing to insurance companies, swap them out if you can. And do it before it its the scrapyard. They prefer you do it with at the towyard or if you were somehow able to get it home.

You can get your insurance payout through ACH with Progressive

I-35 has a metric buttload of construction going on.

The blue looks really good in person.

Corpus Christi has really good deals on cars.

Not a Corvette.
There are also insurance companies that have additions for parts coverage. Agreed value.

Hey, so funny story. We were trying to buy the same car!

I reached out to the same dealership about this exact car on Sunday. They were supposed to get back to me with shipping costs on Tuesday and if they were reasonable, I was ready to buy the car immediately! They never got back to me and stopped returning my calls and when I checked the listing a day or two ago, had been taken down.

I was a little pissed that they ghosted me and sold the car to someone else. But after reading your story, I'm glad you got the car! I've had to deal with insurance and repairs before and it can be such a pain. Hearing that you had a good experience after having your car totaled made my day. Hope you didn't have any lasting injuries from whatever totaled your car.

Make sure to post a pic after you get your mods installed again. I've got a deposit on a similar car at another dealer, but for MSRP... so hopefully I'll be joining the Supra club soon, just a little later than planned.

Dang, sorry to have stolen that from you man! But glad to hear you are still going to be joining us! Yeah as soon as I called them, I told them I was very interested and was willing to make the drive ASAP.

Also very glad that insurance was smooth and painless. Heard lots of horror stories. And thank you, I made it out with a few scratches on my arm and sore shoulder, which have all healed now. So very fortunate indeed.

Absolutely, I have lots of parts on order for her already.
