What did you do to your Supra today?

Visited the detailer for a ceramic coat.

I'm about to do a paint correction and a ceramic coat this Thursday. Help me set my expectations guys.........is it worth it and does the car really shine a lot more? I take pretty good care of my paint but when I installed the wing I did get some scratches I want removed and I am seeing some very faint swirl marks after owning her for almost 2 years now.

When done properly, 100X yes. The ease of washing it is worth it alone.

It doesn’t make it anymore scratch proof, just a better chance of a scratch being in the coating rather than the clear coat. I’m very careful and have thankfully not had anything happen to it that would cause any scratches. Nor do I do anything that would cause swirls. It doesn’t get driven enough for me to have warranted paying for a coating since I work from home plus I don’t drive it every time I go out. So it’s a lot easier for me the keep it nice than if I were to daily drive it. If I did drive it everyday I would have considered getting it done professionally. That being said, a professional coating does have the ability to last you longer than a coating everyone could buy since they are privy to different products. But regardless, a ceramic coating applied correctly is very satisfying and worth the price whatever it may be.

Thanks! It's pretty straight forward, plug and play. The hardest part for me was getting the stupid blue shift paddle plugs unplugged!

agh can't believe y'all let the dealer drill into your cars

I made it crystal clear from the moment I placed my order, that if they drilled the front holes, they'd be eating the full cost of a new bumper cover, paint & labor.

I think I am going to leave the plugs in. For the OCD crowd, it might be too much, but the cost to fix was quoted at $1100 + the cost to reapply PPF + 2x ceramic coat.

The fit isn't bad. The plugs themselves are very tight-fitting after using the correct drill bit. And the fitment even on the curved surface is pretty tight.

if you are a bit handy and familiar with a rattlecan and a polisher it's an easy job to fix this yourself, I did it on my car and it turned out OK. there is a thread here somewhere where this was discussed and where I posted my "ste by step"
basically you fill the holes, sand down, mask around, spray paint and then sand down and polish to blend it in
then again if you're happy with the plugs it would be a waist of time, after all it's your car

Two points on this ....

1) Of course I would never have let the dealer drill holes. I purchased this used. So it had holes from the Toyota dealer (original owner) and additional holes (Carmax). That led to this being larger than normal.

2) Phantom paint. My understanding is that the entire piece would need to be repainted. I just got mine back from them repainting the entire trunk for two places where the paint had cracked. Dealer agreed it was a warranty issue. That's where I got the estimate and it snawballed from there.

The car is my daily driver, more or less. If it was a show car and I'm constantly getting questions and grief, I might move faster, but for now, it'll work for me. Thank you everyone for their input! This is all still very new to me (8/21).
