On bimmertoday.de you can find an interview with th Z4 G29 Product Manager Andreas Ederer. It’s not that much interesting, but I was wondering about these two answers on BT-questions:

BimmerToday.de: It is known that the BMW Z4 G29 was developed together with the new Toyota Supra J29. How did this partnership, which was very unusual for BMW, come about?
Andreas Ederer: This is part of the well-known cooperation with Toyota. Toyota ordered a sports car as a coupe from us, which we developed according to our order.

BimmerToday.de: How independent will the two vehicles be? Do I get a Z4 in the Toyota dress with the Supra de facto?
Andreas Ederer: As I said, we have developed a vehicle for Toyota. What exactly Toyota does with it, is in the hands of colleagues from Japan.

That doesn’t sound for me like Toyota and BMW has been equal partners in this collaboration. All bullshit or something true?

Seems consistent with what we've known so far.

Toyota have their design spec and requirements for the vehicle. Rather than complete each one in house, they have contracted bmw to design and development some aspects or phases of each outcome.

Seems like both cars have truly benefited which is only a good thing for us consumers.

million dollar question that neither side will honestly admit as they will both claim they've put a lot of work into the project to avoid alienating their fans...reliability will certainly be very interesting to look forward to.


Though it is funny how Toyota claims BMW approached them whereas this interview suggests it was the other way around lol

I interpret ad Toyota wanted parts from us, we have them. After that is free game

It’s difficult to read his tone, but based off of what I can tell he doesn’t appear to be too enthusiastic with Toyota’s involvement or as I mentioned in another thread, which direction Toyota is going with the car.

I’m more anxious to see if there will be a documentary outlining the collaboration between both companies.
