He has zero interest to promote another brand, his focus is the Z4, I don’t think he was arrogant at all, just a straight and simple answer to move things along from Toyota and the Supra. That’s just business, he isn’t looking to please Toyota fans.
But isn’t it all about respect? That’s what I’m missing. If I had a collaboration with someone who talks about the partnership in this way, I won’t ever collaborate with him again.

Absolutely! As far as I like BMW, I’m ashamed about what Ederer said and how he did it.
he wasn't even trying to give Toyota credit, it's quite irking

It's like working on a presentation, and having your name get left out...Despite you doing most of the work:popcorn:

^That looks alot better. Much cleaner imo. The one number complaint about the front bumper is that it looks a little ricey.

btw this is how you debut a car! bmw debuted a car people have been waiting for for 2 years WITHOUT camo, toyota couldn't do it for a car people have been waiting for for 13 with! toyota could learna a thing or two from bmw ;)
I think there is a lot of pressure on Toyota because they have to try and satisfy old Supra owners. Just to let everyone know... that's impossible

I’m just hoping the Supra version has enough things to differentiate it from this car. Using the same rear view mirrors and inside door panels would suck totally.

Outside of the interior parts, maybe Toyota and BMW having the same setup inside and out would be very cost effective, but thanks to difference in ecu and suspension tuning, they come out as two completely different cars and feel completely different from one another.

So, while it can be a Zupra, it's like the two twins separated from birth and went on to live different lives despite being the same

lol. BMW developed and designed the car for Toyota.

Initial Toyota statements: Supra will be a pure driver’s car
Initial BMW statement: Z4 will be a pure driver’s car that you take out early Sunday mornings to have fun when no one else is on the road

At the end of the day.. this is going to be a cluster F$&k. Each will say the same things about their car to make it look better. I won’t even be surprised if this partnership falls apart and crashes.

BMW fans aren’t happy about a Supra being their HT version of the Z4.
Supra fans aren’t happy about their much anticipated sequel has a BMW engine, no manual, all BMW interior.

Why does this car even exist? Lol.

I’m not really sure what you mean? What collaboration? That is just what some magazines and a few people on this forum that claim that. This is why I said let’s stick to facts, not rumors, it’s confuses everyone and will end up making people upset one way or another.

It’s pretty simple if you think about it and use common sense. BMW wanted a next gen Z4 but didn’t want to fork over the development cost, instead they partnered up with Toyota to create a win win situation. Toyota wanted a new Supra, BMW new Z4 and to together they reached some sort of an agreement of expectations. Since BMW was to provide the chassis and engine it only made sense that Toyota will put in their share of the money so BMW can move forward with developing the next Z4. BMW provided Toyota with a version of the Z4 that Toyota can call their own.

We don’t know to what extent they truly collaborated on things, that is yet to be revealed.

So if you were to believe his statement, bmw build a Z4 and provided Toyota with their own version to tinker with to further separate the two. It makes perfect sense. He just said he was not involved or has knowledge what Toyota did with the car after they delivered on their end.

Let’s be logical. What would he give Toyota credit for? BMW developed the car and gave it to Toyota to tinker with, end of story. Where did you get information that Toyota did any work on the Z4?

You have to ignore the rumors to be able to take it at face value. It doesn’t seem like the car was co-developed, it was more like co-funded.

But the thing is, the MKV was already in development before the FT1

This was the original BMW press release from 2013.

https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/glob...ion-by-signing-binding-agreements?language=en

2. Sports vehicle

- The companies agreed to set-up a feasibility study to define a joint platform concept for a mid-size sports vehicle that is to be completed by the end of 2013. The two companies aim to combine each other’s technology and knowledge at a high level to maximise customer satisfaction. Both companies are to share the vision to further collaborate in the field of sports vehicle development.

You forgot a very important part of that article.

"Fuel Cell System, Sports Vehicle, Lightweight Technology and Lithium-air Battery Collaboration to Commence"

That article was not about the Supra/z4 it was a larger scale deal made between Toyota and bmw.

It also says mid size sport vehicle and most importantly it says the two companies will start thinking about what car they should even build. I am sure a lot of things and plans changed since that article was written.

Look, we just don’t know the actual details. I think that in its core the Supra is a Z4 that Toyota used as a starting point, at least that’s what I hope. Lets wait and see what Toyota has for us and then we’ll know what’s what. Let’s not take anything personal and let’s not get excited about rumors until they can be verified.
