I haven't taken delivery yet but on a few lists for a manual.
Former MKIV owner. Had a few bmws since then. Loved the FT1 concept the 2020 model i was so so on. But after driving a MKV supra and being more involved with a GT4 bmw race program. BMW and toyota coming together is an awesome thing.
Agreed, very exciting. Can't wait to see what that partnership brings in the future.

Basically. I came from a Lexus nx200t. I always wanted a sports/enthusiast car but my parents didn't want me to get one...so they bought me the Lexus. Of course, I was super thankful they got me the car...but It hurt a little inside that I wasn't able to enjoy car meets with my friends. All my friends had cool cars: R32, MK4 Supra, RX7's, R33's, S2k's, S15's, 180sx, Evo4's.

I grew up with an older crowd so they had money to buy their cars. Finally, when I started working a decently higher paying job I told myself that I would get an enthusiast car....here is a list of cars I went through researching and knowing that my job can pay for the car. I never thought of a car I couldn't pay for in full to my salary.

  • Lexus RCF
    • Great car, reliable, V8 is awesome but didn't give me the true sports car vibe I was looking for.
  • BMW M2
    • Loved the car, was a grail car for me for the longest time, however driving...I could understand why people say don't meet your heroes because the car just fell flat.
    • Visually, really enjoyed the wide body of the car and its dimensions. IMO can't beat M-designs. Even the G80s have grown on me a lot.
  • Honda Civic Type R
    • Probably the best car that could haul a full set of tires and also rip around on the track.
    • The biggest problem I didn't want to deal with was price gouging from the dealerships was atrocious in 2022.
  • Subaru WRX/STI
    • This one hit me differently. Always loved the hawk eye sti and thought it was time for me to get my own. However, hated the fact that the EJ was such an old and unreliable engine IMO. FA, although better, wasn't great by much to encourage a buy.
  • Veloster N
    • So this car was actually going to be the car I was going to get before Lexus-STI. It fell into my budget very comfortably, had a different job at the time. It also had all the pops and bangs of the car I was looking for. And, came in manual.
    • What was the problem? Dealerships.
      • I ordered the car 3 times at 3 different dealerships. All 3 times when the car arrived they charged me 10-15k over msrp on a 30-33K car. I walked on all of those times and so glad I did...because if I didn't I wouldn't have gotten my supra.
Of course I got a different job, which allowed me to get the supra comfortablly. But in the end I made the right choice and honestly I still can't believe I drive a supra. Whatever people say about "iT's a bMw BrOooooO" lol I think the make and model says something else. I still have a soft spot everytime I see a Veloster N and always admire them at shows. To me the Veloster N is always going to be the car that got away...but that all goes out the door when I realize I am driving a supra and rip a corner onto the highway on ramp.

Thx for coming to my ted talk.

Issues with my current car and recent forays into HPDE's made me want to get a trackable daily. I was looking into a few options: Camaro SS 1LE, Mustang Mach1, Mustang Dark Horse, C7 Corvette Grand Sport, etc. The Supra isn't as common as the other cars and I think it looks much better than the Camaro and Mustang. I found one to test drive and felt comfortable in it and fit with my helmet on. Straight from the factory it is just as fast in a straight line as my car, and handles better, so seems like a great fit for what I'm looking for. The dealer is looking for a Stratosphere Blue one for me in the spec I want.

Wanted a real lightweight, low, 2 seat, aggressively styled, sports car.

C8s were just out of my price range plain and simple.

C7s were overpriced for an outdated car and the desirable trims: z51 or a grand sport, the good examples were as much as a new Supra for a car with 20-40k miles and 5+ years old. Plus both the transmissions kinda suck in the c7s in my opinion and c7s are just everywhere and didnā€™t feel special enough to me. Several buddies that donā€™t know much about cars are confused why I picked a Toyota over a corvette lol.

mustangs and Camaros just didnā€™t do it for me so I never really shopped them super hard

FRS and Miata are just too slow for me.

cayman 718 s was a boring motor and a 2017/2018 with 5 digit miles and the proper options was more than a Supra new

m2/m3/m4 are all awesome cars and the M2c was a closer runner up to the Supra, but at the end of the day they are souped up luxury sedans and didnā€™t scratch the true sports car feeling for me.

The Supra is not a perfect car and has its shortcomings. But for 60k fully loaded and brand new, it pretty much stands alone in what it offers.

Great description! AWE touring exhaust all the way (my wife had me get the AWE track). What a difference :flame: Iā€™m fine with the wheel but @NitroYellowMKV can hook you up there. I stick to always driving in manual mode and donā€™t mind it. Canā€™t stand the shift points with the two auto modes offered for in town driving. Agree with you on the interior, so I got red with my 2022 phantom. The quirky computer is blah šŸ˜• but I love the big turn off the nannies button.

Iā€™ve had more expensive cars and a few of the same ones youā€™ve had, nothing is perfect as we all know. This one seems to have the best trade offs at this price point for my use, tracking.ā€¦ Sway bars and SPL parts are nice for tightening things up but thatā€™s a big leap many donā€™t want to do and canā€™t blame em. More experience mechanic needed for alignments, more noise (which wonā€™t matter if you get the loud exhaust šŸ˜‚) but gotta admit it feels great!
I found the dual outlet Tomei about perfect for sound when getting on it and quiet when not. Cold start is pretty loud, but once cold start finishes, itā€™s quiet. When you get on it, loud enough to enjoy it as a sports car. The full titanium and weight savings were icing on the cake.

I did wonder why the Tomei price seemed too good to be true, but honestly itā€™s where a titanium exhaust price should be. When I see people selling a stainless steel for $2500 to $6000, I start laughing. Sorry, they didnā€™t do any more R&D on the Supra, just had to get the bends correct. Used the exact same parts as they did on previous sports cars.

I had a Honda back in 2010 that I did a automatic to manual conversion on which got me into the jdm scene. Rebuilt the engine and tranny a few times, so when it was down I'd drive my dad's 86' BMW 325. Even after redoing the entire suspension on that car the 325 handled better and had somewhat better technology for its time.

After picking up the E92 and getting Bimmergeeks ProTool so I could perform my own maintenance, I figured if I added another beamer to the stable I could get more use out of it. This led me to start looking at various M2, M3, and M4's for about 1.5 - 2 years, but I couldn't find the right color, spec, mileage, or price.

Once I saw Toyota release the picture of the clutch pedal for the Supra I decided to wait and see if they'd actually release them. Glad I waited, but it was also cheaper than the M cars and probably lower maintenance costs than a Cayman.

10/10 ted talk, glad you went with the supra. The Veloster N is a great ride, but i think most of us on here have a soft spot for supras.

I swore that if they ever released it with a stick I would be first in line. The window for a dedicated internal combustion sports car from one of the mainstream manufactures is rapidly closing. I have had a G35 and 370Z and I have to say Nissans are kind of built to the lowest common denominator. Fun sure but missing something in the sum of their parts. A 911 is the ideal but I am not sure you get double the car for double the price even if I could have swung it.

Hello all, thank you all for sharing your stories, I always loved Supra it's my dream car. I wanted MK4 but couldn't afford the prices of them, so I ended up getting 2023 Supra premium 3.0, and I'm in love with it!!
