So I was driving my Supra the other day and the truck in front of me kicked up a rock and cracked my front windshield. Unfortunately I live in Arkansas and there is no deductible for just windshields so I would have to pay my entire deductible for a freaking windshield. That being said I contacted safelite along with other “big” window replacement companies and they wanted anywhere from 1,000-1,500. So I reached out to a friend of mine who works for Toyota in Little Rock, recommended me to a smaller mom and pop shop. Called them said they could do it for 600. I asked them about the recalibration and everything, they said they’ve done other supras or cars with the same tech said no calibration should be needed with the oem window. So I’m praying this works if not I’ll just take it to the dealer after for the calibration.

So I just had my windshield replaced yesterday (I was so nervous!) by Safelite at their facility and they did a great job in under 2 hours with the calibration. The tech and I took a ride together while he drove and I held the calibration device. The windshield is 99% identical and came out really nice! I do live in Florida and I have Geico who covered the whole thing (no deductible), otherwise, it's like $1000 out of pocket plus labor. Just make sure they know what they are doing because removing parts all around the window, especially the wipers can be tricky. Good luck.

Well I’ve read that calibration isn’t necessary but idk

I also used Safelite recently to replace the front windshield on the daily driver and it went well. They offered mobile service and did the replacement in our garage.

Curious, what calibration is needed for the Supra? Is it because of the HUD?

750 miles in, and I already have a chip :banghead:
I don't know what it is but the Supra has the most fragile windshield of all the cars I've ever owned, every time I have to drive on the interstate at high speeds I get paranoid because of anything that gets kicked up. Ironically, the last straw was a pebble that a pickup truck hit me with going like 45-50 mph on a county road, and that finished off the glass. I ended up with a horizontal crack that grew to a foot and a half. I'm contemplating getting my new windshield protected with film.

It was calibration for the camera on the windshield that the adaptive cruise control uses/safety systems.

Oh jeez.. I talked to my detailer about PPFing the windsheild and he said they only do it on track cars.
Said it would cause another host of issues (example wipers scratching the PPF up, visibility not the best, etc.) and he said it wouldn't actually prevent a chip as well as you would think :(
