Based on the professionalism and ability to stay calm in this ridiculous situation, I'll be doing business with EPH in the future.
My wife used to work in the service industry and she jokes all the time that I wouldn’t last two hours before telling someone to go fuck themselves. I 100% agree with her. This was in Berkeley, California as well. 9 out of 10 people are entitled pricks there.
100% what my wife told me as well. She's always telling me her work customer stories, and I'm like, "was this before or after, you told them to go fuck themselves and block their IP?" Haha

Anyone with a actual ecomerce platform get hit with fees as soon as you press order. Those fees dont get given back to the merchant regardless. While i know it sucks, id like to think you would agree the merchant shouldnt have to eat those fees because you want to order it else where now.

LOL. Mike @xph has gone above and beyond for customer service.
I had issues with order that I did not place directly with him (CTS Turbo had wrong address, parts got lost for months), he bent over backwards to make things right.

Getting a response on a holiday from retailer? When most are out of office? How much more of an entitled millennial can you get?

I've worked in retail, and if I get email responses within 72 hours, I'm already beyond thrilled.

I cant speak enough positive about XPH, and have now consistently placed orders with them because their business ethics/practices align with how I feel (and I'm sure plenty others).

Whoaaa why do we have to lump millennials into this. We don’t claim him. That’s a boomer - note how he is confused with PayPal and technology. (Just kidding lol).

Something that I do is set payments to "manually capture". This way if a customer cancels before capturing the payment I am not charged any fees.

I would like to post some facts as an unbiased 3rd-party that has built an entire career in the payment systems engineering space, including time at PayPal (source: https://z19r.pw).

* All payment processors operating on sliding fee scales
* PayPal operates as a payment gateway in most cases but can also operate as a processor
* gateways and processors get a cut of the party
* PayPal offers services 'above and beyond' vanilla interchange fees (typically 2.9% + 29c/tx)
* processors and gateways are never fully transparent on their fees (see stripe and square, there are a billion hidden fees)
* Processors net out to gateways, gateways net out to merchants
* In some cases, PayPal has a different fee structure for merchants of various sizes/processing volumes- this can be discounts on gateway and interchange but offset by risk, underwriting, and additional tooling, such as Fraud Detection. This is all industry standard
* Processors and gateways have zero transparency to the end-user on what the fee structure looks like to the merchant

All of this to say, it's literally impossible for an end-user to understand what sort of platform fees, merchant fees, risk-based fees, and tooling fees are charged to the merchant. Honestly, half the time is hard for the merchant even to understand what all the fees are; they're incredibly hard to suss out.

To make some assumption that Merchant A is paying the same fees as Merchant B is borderline unhinged without access to that merchant's financials.

The mold factory is very busy and they keep pushing the testing date. Until it's put together and tested we can't start production unfortunately. I'm trying to push them every day but I still don't have an ETA :(

I've done the same. It also helps with fraud orders so I don't get stuck eating fees for scammers.

Two challenges present themselves to us in this situation. The less significant one is the sheer volume of orders we handle, making it a hassle to capture every transaction manually.

The more prominent issue is that this method wouldn't be particularly helpful. Most of our orders are processed within hours, with in-stock items guaranteed to ship within 24 business hours. As for drop-shipped items, they typically get dispatched within an average of 3 days, but the orders are processed immediately, which necessitates immediate fund capture.

Unless a customer changes their mind within the first ten minutes of placing an order, manual capture wouldn't provide a viable solution.

I noticed that most customers who change their mind, they do it in the first couple hours or even minutes after ordering. At least for me. I also use it for fraud protection. If an order is high risk then I just simply cancel it and don't have to worry about charges.

This is what I do, to avoid fee issues, but in my experience PayPal always refunded fees for me so hopefully that stays the case ? at the end of the day this whole situation is getting a little out of hand for everyone and I think it’s best to move on
