Was driving on the road and all of a sudden my car started screeching very loudly. Pulled over into a parking lot to record a video of it, and heard a loud clank/snap after putting the car in park. Anyone else recognize this or know what it may be? Had the car towed to get looked at, wasn't sure if it was safe to drive at that point.

The screeching sound is pretty obvious but the concerning snap is towards the end. Was not applying brakes during the screeching.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Less than 600 miles, bought brand new.

You’ve got a rock stuck between the shield and the rotor. I had the same thing happen and it scared the shit out of me. It’s easy enough to bend the shield and let the rock fall out. Or take the wheel off and just get in there with a flat head and push it out.

Not sure on the other noise you heard. Maybe the rock cracking/breaking?

You mean the plate behind the rotor? Very well could have been, I did also see a distinct line/circle on the front of the rotor which could indicate some debris stuck in the caliper?

Apologies in advance if I didn't understand you, not very familiar with all this.

No worries. I found it easiest to remove the wheel so I didn’t risk scratching anything and could get in easy. This picture might help. Correct, the shield behind it.

Thanks guys!

Well, it's at the shop now and they're taking a look tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how much it costs to punch out a rock. ?

More likely to be a rear brake calliper dragging because of a faulty E brake motor/drive assembly not releasing the E brake fully. Take the car for a short drive like to the end of your street and back use the brakes as lightly as possible and see if a rear brake disk is hot.

I will bet you $100 usd that its a rock stuck in the front rotor snd nothing with the e brake. Ready to test that luck?

If it was the e-brake, wouldn't I have heard it pulling out of my driveway?

What would the point be to a wager? Like my sensible possibility is worthless unless I put money on it? If it's a rock then I'm glad to go with that and happy for the OP but the E brake in my mind is another valid option as well and something to consider esp in a brand new car.
Time will tell I guess.
