Hello all,
This may be a dumb question, but what supporting mods, if any, are needed to run an upgraded intake manifold? Right now I have an upgraded charge pipe, intake, and soon to be downpipe. I was looking to potentially get a jb4 with a custom tune over the winter as well.
I was interested in getting one potentially, but wasn't sure if a femto unlock was needed/better for it to be worth it, or if a jb4 would be sufficient for tuning, as well as if it is pointless to upgrade the manifold with only having the mods listed above. Also just curious if there were any other supporting mods that would make it more worth it. Let me know!

Don't waste your time getting JB4, you'll end up buying it and then deciding it's not good enough and you'll do a Femto unlock and proper tune anyway. So save your money and go straight for a Femto unlock. I learnt this the hard way....

Yes the manifold does make a great difference for intake temps if you are doing hit after hit because the recovery time is a lot better, and if you go for an upgraded turbo etc.

An upgraded intake manifold can be highly variable in cost.

Just an IM is a good upgrade because it'll bring down IATs and make performance more consistent. Price is as-listed.

If you start adding port injection, price jumps a lot. Add injectors, ab auxiliary low pressure pump, a controller, and (personal rec) quality wiring harness, and suddenly it's another couple thousand dollars. Not unworthy money, mind you, as the headroom and benefits are quite pronounced... But the price can double the IM quickly.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Even stock turbo can benefit from better cooling during track days or hot summer days

I am. Stock turbo motor and trans. Just catless dp and eos mani with pi tuned on ecutek. Def helps with temps
I know people that get the upgraded manifold just so they can track down here w/out issues, during our summer season (6 months). No major hp mods besides a catless dp. It definitely brings their IAT down and I’ve been told they don’t feel the heat soak like I do.

I do have a bigger air box filter & some other cooling goodies - before I started paying closer attention to really good recs this forum. And the fact the tracking Supra population grew helped as well. Somedays it can get close to 90F & track 110F plus. I definitely feel the drIan in power (heat soak?). My top speed goes down on the long straight at my home track. Oddly enough, when I looked at the data, it was my fastest lap time. I drove better down on power ?

I still want to get one however. It should have been where I started 1st.

Is your aftermarket one not working?

Is this what you are referring to Wazza?

“Because the Supra uses a torque based ECU tuning strategy, our SnailWorks© Engineering Team has found that horsepower is not significantly changed with any aftermarket engine components unless proper ECU calibration is made to take advantage of the new hardware components. Our team even went so far as to add a much larger turbocharger to our test Supra, and found 0 hp gains without tuning. Do not be fooled by competitor’s claims of horsepower gains without ECU calibration!”
