Can someone who autocross their supra share their suspension setups? Is spending 3k on aftermarket coilovers worth it or 200tw tires with camber plates enough?

start with 200tw, camber plates, and front sway bar & endlinks. i personally run faster times having my suspension on the normal setting rather than sport.. coils can wait

I'll give that a try. now that I think about it, I never ran it with normal setting... What 200tw are you running?

Couple of questions:
- What class (assuming SCCA classing)?
- Is this your daily driver?

i'm on 300tw (also no camber plates, -2 all around)
other two supra locals are on nankang CRS and RT660s on their 18" setups

edit: there used to be a third psychopath running 200tw front 300tw rear but haven't seen him in a few months

I started autocross late summer this year and stayed in novice the entire time. I'm not quite sure what class I will be in next year as I got myself into autocross unexpectedly but I was hooked and ended up attending 7 events this year. This is not my daily but I am not committed to making the car into a track-focused car yet.

You need to do nothing to the car. Only thing you need is experience. Seat time. Don't go spending thousands of dollars on things that will do absolutely nothing for you.

All you need, is an alignment. Drive the car on the stock suspension, stock brakes, stock tires. Learn to listen to the tires, when they begin to slide, overheat, and build up your skill. Then, when those tires are worn out, buy something better.

Buying all that shit at 7 races experience, is just going to mask your inexperience. Get good first, then upgrade the car. At your current experience level you're probably seconds off the time a pro can do in the exact same car.

OK, so no class in mind, and one season under your belt. Thank you.

I'm mostly in agreement with Danny, with one exception. Tires. The OEM tires leave a lot to be desired, regardless of skill level. If you've done 7 events, you've put a hurting on the OEMs anyway. Run whatever the other guys are running, assuming you can get the right sizes. I'm guessing you're seeing Falken RT660, Yoko A052, Bridgestone RE71RS. I run the 'stones on track. They do not suck.

Find the nearest Evolution school. One of the most fun weekends of auto-x for me was doing the Evo 1 and 2 schools when I lived in San Fran. Lots of seat time, excellent instruction.

Thanks for your input, Dan. I plan on putting in much more time this coming year. I wish I had gotten into autocross a little earlier before I did a tune and bought the wheels with the wrong tires(all season 560tw). I enjoyed learning the car as my car is very tail-happy. Having friends in the same autocross event doesn't help because we are all trying to compete with each other and of course, they are preparing this coming season with 200tw, coilovers, and camber plates. It's hard not to do anything esp when you have the fastest car among them.

My current tires are worse than the OEM and my car is putting slightly more power due to tune. I'm sliding everywhere. I want to run RT660 265/35/19 front, 275/35/19 rear with maybe on the stock wheels. I'm lowered on H&R springs and based on my research via the forum, I don't think I'll have a fitment issue.

Regarding to autox school, I'll look into that. that does sound fun.

The only thing I would definitely do is get an adjustable front sway bar to replace the oem. I with with eibach and left it on the mid setting. Other than that getting a good alignment and I'd do 200tw tires if you have an extra set of wheels or just stick with some good summer performance 300tw tires otherwise

Since you're here in the DMV with me...I wish I was plugged into the autox scene enough to make more recommendations on who to run with. I have no clue these days. I'm assuming DC Region SCCA is still the main group running events, but there used to be several more that ran good events...most if not all of them are no more.

On the track side, in Gainesville, you're under an hour from Summit Pt. AND Dominion.

I don't have the OEM front sway bar as mine is 2020. I think I will take your suggestion and go for tires and camber adjustment.. if it's still oversteering more than I like, I will consider front sway to reduce the oversteer. thanks for your input.
