So the reviews are in and in general, they're positive which is a good thing. The last thing for me before I pull the trigger is the reliability. Obviously, we're not to learn anything about long term reliability from a track day but it was at least good to hear that none of the cars available for the track day event broke down with all of the journalist beating the car up for one day.

I know I've read before that Toyota got their hands on the B58 and put it through their routine reliability testing and then sent the engine back to bmw with requested changes and updates to meet their reliability standards but that's all in testing. I'm curious to see now how it holds up over time to normal wear and tear with people using their cars in all situations.

I never planned to buy an early model of the Supra especially an early model based on BMW underpinnings. I had an '08 E90 335 and as much fun as that car was to drive, the reliability just isn't anywhere compared to a Toyota/Lexus. Needless to say, I got rid of the car at about 125k miles. It was just falling apart. I hope the Supra doesn't start to fall apart at 125k miles because that's one thing the past gen Supras were not and that was unreliable.

Nobody can say for sure. All I know is that my experiences with BMW have always been positive. I have never had issues outside of scheduled maintenance.

I can vouch for this. Both 2010 M3(93k miles) and 2015 M4(42k miles) running strong.

I'm curious on the long term reliably as well. Hopefully Toyota's extensive testing analysis would help yield this car as more reliable then the MKIV. The last vehicle that I bought brand new was my 05 Tacoma 4WD double cab which now has an impressive 265K miles. It's still on the original engine, transmission, starter, alternator, wp, radiator, hoses, diff, etc.

Besides the lack of the transmission option, I'm ok with waiting. I usually follow the exotic hack rule with sports cars and wait until they reach the bottom of the depreciation curve before buying. By this time, the car would be on the market long enough to be fully beta tested by the consumer and price would substantially lower.
