Well guys, I knew it was long shot to get what I wanted in a supra.

I have 11 cars at this point, all collectors of different types. 7 by trades

Some are going up, others down. It's been that way since the 1970's.
I still believe a classic car is better than the stock market.

Note: almost every mk5 at this point is losing value everyday. Lie to yourselves if you want. Tri 5 are increasingly daily.

Double note: as of Last night I have had 8 trade offers....just, I can't find the right color schemes. Lots of whites and black cars. Sorry. They are plummeting in value. Mods kill them too.
Best wishes, I will be here for tech help soon.

i am talking very specifically about postwar to modern era US-made cars between, since that is how companies like Hagerty define it. nothing I'm taking about is new or unique - car and driver talked about aging out a decade ago. you are certainly right that concours d'elegance cars will continue to fetch millions. but what I'm taking about is the more tangible value cars, the ones in fair/good/great condition.

"“As different generations age out, their cars do, too,” says dealer Lichty. “While the owners may die, the cars don’t. They don’t become worthless, but there’s a shift in the types of people who buy them and the types of collections where they go.” The Cadillac V-16s and Duesenbergs survived the shift from the World War II generation just fine, Lichty explains, but ordinary mid-1920s and ’30s cars, such as Buicks and Dodges, are stone cold right now. “They’re certainly not worthless, just hard to get rid of,” he says."

https://www.iamagazine.com/markets/boomers-hand-over-the-keys-to-the-classic-car-market

“A lot of baby boomers are leaving the market and cashing in on their collections for retirement income or just to do something else with their money," says Brook McGuire, strategy lead for specialty products at Safeco.

“They want to sell their collection and, in their mind, their car is worth three times more than anybody else's car. But the valuation for some vehicles is coming down and this is largely based on the baby boomer-era collectors who are selling off some or all of their collection," McGuire says. “Suddenly there is a lot of supply in the market and that's driving prices down for a lot of vehicles that, frankly, have probably been a little overvalued."

I've been to classic car shows last year where the old guy in the chair yells at people trying to peek into seeing the dashboard. what a great way to share your hobby with younger generations.
I hear you but i don't see it currently. Tri-5's are still trading on average somewhere between $45K-$60K for good quality examples. I do agree with you though, as the owners age out (next 10 years), the younger buyers will not be able to afford to buy them if they don't come down in value, so it then becomes a simple supply and demand scenario.

Also, the younger generations do not seem to be interested in buying cars, show a willingness to learn how to drive a manual, let alone understanding what points, distributors, timing, carburetors are and how they work to keep these cars running.

Big fan of the tri-5 era, my uncle had 5 of them and that's what got me into cars. :)

Good luck man, beautiful 56. I have a '68 Camaro SS 396 L78 4 speed too, so i understand the appeal of both modern (just get in it and rip) vs. the nostalgia of the older cars, just completely different animals. But i will tell you this, my stock and investment portfolio has provided significantly higher returns than any cars i've bought, flipped, or collected. The lucky few like Jerry Seinfeld, Wayne Carini, Rick Hendrick, etc. who have 1-of-1's and some of the best examples of everything are certainly the exception.

Got salty cause no one would buy his 1800s car? I saw it that way.
Like 60% of FB Marketplace posts in automotive are for trade. I don't do it very often, but i did trade a 2011 Camaro (2014 at the time) for my 1968 Camaro i still own, so things like this can happen.

I don't think he's salty and thought someone might be up for a swap. Value is only in what someone is willing to give you for something, so i could see something working out if the stars aligned thought it's hard to do something like this remotely.....i would never buy a classic car without a full inspection, test drive, appraisal, etc. but to each his own.

Again, this is neither new, nor unique. the articles i linked directly address the younger generation's goals with cars. they don't buy them to invest. they buy them to enjoy as intended. If i were an auto engineer, like i was for close to 20 years, it saddens me to see a piece of machinery I designed never get used. smiles and miles for your dollar is what matters.

"While baby boomers are selling off their classic car collections, the cars they have kept in garages under a car cover and drove on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the new generation of collectors are “opting more for experiences with their cars, like tours, even international tours," Butcher says. “Some folks actually get into amateur motorsports where they're getting track time with their car, while others are becoming members of automotive country clubs that are beginning to pop up around the country.""
