After lots of searching, albeit not on social media, I have yet to find a person that has purchased the newish Vargas top mount kit.

Curious if anyone here has or knows anyone that runs this kit?

I’ve been eyeing it since the day it was announced, but I’ve got some other desires that would force me to modify this kit and hacking apart this gorgeous kit would be a shame. I asked Vargas if they would consider customizing but I don’t think it’s in the cards.

What I wanted to change was:
1) dump the wastegate to atmosphere, thus needing to cut off & block off the area on the downpipe where it recirculates into it. Adding a sharp downturn at the WG exit. Dunno if it would fit.
2) add a high flow cat, similar to KLM. Not sure if it would fit close to turbo but I suppose it could always go farther down, just not sure if it would be as effective farther away. I have no interest in the catless smell. On this note yes I realize this may sound silly to vent WG to atmo yet run a cat. Simply put, there’s no smell or sound unless under full boost, and when the WG opens the flow restriction from the cat should be reduced a bit anyway.

Anyway, my changes aren’t the reason for the post. I didn’t see an existing one and figure anyone with any experience with this kit could share here.

it’s more expensive than KLM, doesn’t have the same track record yet, but at a glance it looks to be extremely well put together. I would prefer single WG anyway, then the use of the factory electronic WG controller to me seems like a match made in heaven. No external boost control, no melted WG lines. Curious what the tuners have to say, if this is preferred over normal spring and vacuum boost control?
Can’t quite tell if it’s equal length, though even KLM isn’t so I guess not a big deal. KLM benefits from the twin scroll design, but I am fine with slightly delayed spool if it even happens.
Also curious about the sheer size and weight of the manifold, if that’s just too big & heavy to hang off the head. I don’t see any supports, I know the downpipe helps support in a way but not seeing the tabs to attach.

Anyone with any input / experience with this kit please share!

thanks

Pretty much everything Vargas makes is trash so keep that in mind.
That is the impression I get from most of the community lol. I have no experience with anything they have done or make, just hoping to find someone out there that bought this thing.
My fear would be that they only mocked it up once on a pulled engine and never made any others. Hoping to see the opposite.

There is this m240 with the Vargas kit. Unfortunately it’s on JB4. Maybe it’s a lease car or something lol. Even if the hardware is amazing, the fact that it’s JB4 won’t give a good picture of the capability. Luckily I’m only caring about the hardware right now.
I reached out to the guy, hoping he is willing to share his experience.

Also of note found the guy who does the fab work for Vargas, and he is no slouch. Proper jigs, and he’s been around the block long enough to make high quality stuff.

I hate having to browse social media for this stuff lol I miss the old forum days.

Thats my car and it was on jb4 because i co developed the new jb4pro on the software side. I was testing ewg / turbo smart straight gate and doing some things that will enhance the locked dme experience. I have been on race rom v2 /rev2 for a while on a cloned dme and the turbo kit kicks ass. Ive only made 900ish whp so far but no boost creep or surging at all and i can literally target 5psi if i want because no wastegate spring. the ewg has a few extra bolts id regularly check but otherwise i put close to 20k miles on this kit, i daily it 250 miles over 4500 elevation and back to my office, ripping the whole way. the car drives like bone stock in eco mode etc with a 7275. a little lack luster until 3300 rpm and it gets BETTER fuel economy than stock in eco mode at 70mph for some reason. My friends car with klm kit same turbo, makes boost 300 rpm later than i do and my car has a better torque curve, both same year g42 same tuner same everything but turbo kit and color. Mike does fantastic work and I have no problem being transparent about what i received from VTT. This is probably the nicest turbo kit, best fitting, (after 20k miles the v bands snap together easily no fitment issues at all).
One thing i will say, do NOT use this manifold with a titanium exhaust that has no muffler or resonator because its pretty close to equal length and sounds like if nissan made a b58 until its in full boost and i absolutely HATE it, when i have it dumped at the 4"downpipe its god tier sound.

Tonys g80 with same turbo kit went like 8.60 on a no prep regular street in hayward.
His x3m has the same kit and gets driven .
it was a no brainer when he offered to let me have the first b58 kit because i do both, daily it and will race anyone who even looks at me for longer than 2 seconds.

Thats my car
Thanks for sharing your experience here, very much appreciated.

I spoke to you on instagram a while back about your experience with this kit because it’s still near the top of my list when I do go big turbo in the next 1-2 years. I wish I was closer to you I’d love to come see in person, if I’m ever in the area I’ll reach out.

I’m thankful but surprised to hear about your exhaust sound feelings lol, I figured equal length tubular 6-into-1 would have a really good quality sound. If you can share any sound clips I’d be VERY interested. I would def prefer to keep a modest cat back no matter what car. Titanium I think by nature is a lot raspier. My only dislike of Supra / B58 (other than the fake vents lol) so far is the sound leaves some to be desired. But it’s much better than S58 with stock twins. And nothing these days gives you the 2JZ / 3SGTE type sound.

As for the kit design:
I heard Osprey in the UK had issues using (not this kit) factory EWG with the straight gate, something about over boosting after letting off gas. They used a Walton manifold I believe, but basically same design, single billet 6-1 collector, straight gate, EWG adapter.
Also, another company that makes their own kits (so VTT competitor FWIW) told me that the factory controller is unreliable with much higher than stock boost levels. Not sure if it’s a physical issue with the arm controlling the flapper, or something else. Maybe not true at all.
And another person told me there was issues with too much heat on the factory controller that caused a different problem though I assume using heat shielding or the little turbo blanket type thing would resolve that one.
Though I kinda dismissed these issues as I figure there is always the pneumatic straight gate flap controller that could be used with normal boost control methods, if for some reason the factory EWG & adapter proved to be an issue.

As for the hardware:
IMO it’s pretty normal to have to check and re tighten some bolts here and there especially exhaust side. So no issues there.
My only gripe is that while the design of this kit is really great, it would require hacking and destroying a lot of the really great design to be able to run open wastegate dump. Unless I can get Janke to build a custom one.

Anyways, again really appreciate you giving us feedback on VTT and welcome to this forum.
