All I have to say is Oscar drove a great race. Lando did as well... except in the first turn. Charles made the best of Max's tire troubles at the end. So did George, but the call by the Red Bull team to let George back through was premature... and according to the stewards, he wouldn't have been forced to give way to George. Max should be mad at his own team, not Charles or George. And now he is on probation for a couple of races... one more penalty point and he sits out a race. I think the fact that he is that close to getting suspended for a race says a lot about the way he drives, and maybe why some people don't love him. Hmmm...

If nothing else, he should be on his best behaviour for the next two races and that’ll be nice.

Expecting any of this to change the way he acts when mad and frustrated will only lead to disappointment. This is who Max is, at his core.

Yeah, the three stop with the hards at the end was a really bad call.

Charles was drifting left on the straight, which led to that touch, and George caught Max distracted while he was on the radio. Max and George's collision also was very much a racing incident caused by Leclerc's dirty air. George was ahead at the apex

It really seems like the pit wall's decision to let George past was preemptive to avoid a penalty for leaving the track and gaining and advantage; I guess they were extra cautious about corner cutting after the penalty in Saudi Arabia, and it would be a lot of places lost because of the safety car restart. It did seem a bit premature.

But yeah, nothing excuses the deliberate ramming attempt. 10 seconds and 3 penalty points seems a bit light. A black flag seems more appropriate.

My take ?

The 3 stop was a decent strategy until the yellow flag. That ruined everything for Red Bull. Pitting for hards was obvious suicide. I was telling my wife it is going to be awful to watch. On cue, when the race resumed, seeing Max was like watching a wounded animal trying to fight after being crippled. He was severely hampered & frustrated. It was obvious. Fortunately and unfortunately he is that insanely & obsessively competitive. No excuses for turning into George. And I’m glad he was okay and able to finish. But I wish RB would have let Max drive it off instead of telling him to give up 4th place after loosing 3rd. Did y’all watch the cool down room? Charles was pretty pleased with himself (grinning) at the suggestion he tapped Max. He knew what he was doing & that would only added fuel to the fire. It was well played on his part.

Hopefully Max will learn from this like he has in the past & we all do from our mistakes. If it were me, I’d likely back down and say screw it, the season is over. Max, on the other hand, will likely come back even more intent to prove to himself he can still win, when opportunities arise, such as in this race. He knew it was a long shot but he was close. Thanks to his skill. Then it was stripped away. That’s when he needs to give up. I just don’t know if that’s in him to do so. Know when to give up after working so hard… Yuki sure did a good job of giving up in the rear ?

Kudos to McLaren for having everything right for this car and their drivers. And class act driving by Oscar ?. Him and Lando are going to be hard to beat!!

Max learning from his mistakes FL? From what I can say from this past race, the only real mistake that Max truly made was when he deliberately ran into George. All the other mistakes we can attribute to his team and decisions made both on race day and the days before (tire management).

If you think that Max will "learn" that he shouldn't lose his temper on the track when times get tough, you must not be watching how he has raced his whole career in F1. There has been no improvement of this area and at this point I don't think we should expect it. He'll blame all of it on everyone else and not take ownership of his actions, it's just what Max does.

As pointed out earlier, he doesn't need to do that. He's such a special talent that he really doesn't need to let his anger bubble over into reckless driving on the track. He probably could have fought back and possibly passed George or even Charles, sure it would have been tough but it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

Clueless yet again. Fighting back on hards against fresh softs ?

Max was not at fault for the turn 1 incident with Russell, as Russell was deemed to have forced Max off, and did NOT have to give up his position, so he had every right to be pissed.

Of course he ruined that later in turn 5, but after the team screwing him over twice, with the pit stop and the order to let George by, even you (well maybe not since you're clueless) could understand his frustration.

That does NOT mean what he did later was ok, just adding that in case it's not clear for Skidmark.

Yeah it's done. Max would need to win 7 races with Oscar coming in 2nd to draw even, and that isn't happening. McLaren built an incredible car, and RedBull isn't going to catch up. The flexiwing TD was the big question mark if it would draw the teams level, but it made no difference.

I'm sure Max will win a few more races, but he eliminated himself out of title contention with that stunt.

Has he really? He has points on his license from 5 other 'errors' in just the past 12 months! Nobody else is even close to having been penalized that much or that often.

Lando has only one penalty and it's 3 points just for not slowing down at a double yellow flag. He didn't intentionally hit anybody with his car or even get into any potentially dangerous situations!

Props to Leclerc for stepping out of Q3 on Saturday to keep a extra set of softs in the garage just in case there's a late safety car. Good call from him or his team.

Also WTF is going on with Kimi blowing up his power units? All the other Mercs seem to be very reliable, but poor Kimi is DNF-ing through his rookie season.

Am I wrong to say that didn’t Williams and Aston have powertrain issues this season?

I would think that all the Mercedes powered cars are exploring the limits of that powertrain to narrow the gap to McLaren, and in doing so they are finding that limit and surpassing it.

Aston definitely had issues. Alonso has had several retirements of late. Williams hasn't really had the same issues.

Probably the engine mode each team is running.

I think we might actually see more moments of red mist. The car's not dominant, so he has to go racing, and it seems like Oscar (and maybe George) are willing to use his playbook against him, which he doesn't like.

As good as Max is, his decision making gets very questionable once he's angry. Monza 2021 and Hungary 2024 come to mind where a bad pit stop and bad strategy put him behind Lewis, and both times he made reckless moves, ending both their races in Monza, and almost flipping the car in Hungary.

? Magnussen literally got a race ban last year.

Do you guys just make up shit as you go, or no?
I said nobody else is even close to 12 points. That's not made up, that's a fact. I wasn't talking history, I'm talking about current status.

Magnussen doesn't even drive in F1 anymore. So he really doesn't count as far as current point levels stand. But you go ahead and call me out all you want.
