What a blast to watch! I was rooting for you to stay in front of that C8! Whats the setup on the car? Mods?

DId the EVO check out or dip off the track? Didnt see him after like halfway through the video!
Thanks! It was a really gripping experience (pun intended) 😁

day one was great because of the rain. But day 2 was amazing.

that white corvette was on my mirror during the entire session but for some reason he kept coming out of the turns into the long straights way slower than I expected.

we were NOT racing but I will call victory there!!!! Little Supra proved its worth against that beast.

funny thing you ask about that EVO. That unassuming car was an absolute animal. We drove one behind the other on 2 sessions and he was FAST! but at one point he lifts and lets me pass and goes limping to Pits. Why? I don’t know! I looked for the driver to talk but couldn’t find him. I was thinking the brakes were giving up? Car got too hot?? Happened on both sessions.

one thing is very real: car racers are concentration demons. Just the presence of a car in front or behind you takes away from the focus of driving. I got phenomenal footage of the EVO making mistakes when I was too close to him and me making mistakes when getting close to him or having the Vette behind. (Will post here for fun) and I recorded a few people spinning on the rain.

regarding my car is Stock engine power but the rest is wildly modified. I was on my Conti street tires because I’m a beginner (now level 2!) driver. So it’s more car than driver skills, but I can tell I’m getting better.

Beautiful! I’ve turned so many laps around homestead in iRacing, made it even more enjoyable!

Dude you making us all proud 🄹. Well dun!!

Driving in the rain will pay dividends for sure! Times are typically much quicker after a good rain. Maybe it’s the surface, but I’d like to think the confidence gains begin to match the grip. They both go up in an exponential fashion.

As far as following someone close or vice versa, you are absolutely right about mucking up more. It’s natural to look at the car instead of looking through or past it. A good friend got some cool stickers that said look ahead, lol. Kid you not, that will help immensely. Maybe not the stickers but just remembering to look ahead and trusting your peripheral vision. It’s better at detecting the slightest motion than you’d think. Looking ahead will keep you consistent and result in better lap times. Now if you don’t trust the car & driver, that’s a different animal. Then it’d be best to back off or wait for the point by.

I should be at Homestead more this year due to my weekend work schedule & hopefully will see you out there in October!

Side note: Got my diff fluid changed. Damn was it dirty! Solved what sounded like a slip diff chatter issue I was having. Make sure you check or change yours often. I went back to the OEM BMW brand from some talk about having the right amount of modifiers. But who knows, mine was so dirty looking, it could have been just that.

I flew small planes for 4 years before I started racing in the SCCA. As a pilot, you have to be on top of a number of issues. But nothing focuses your mind like racing. And it's one thing to focus on driving fast when you are behind somebody, but then add in the need to think about how to get around somebody who is just as fast as you, or somebody who is faster than you on the straights but you are all over them in the corners... and now pass them safely! It's a rush!

I massively over revved, and bounced off my limiter by accident!! Wooo!! Ugh. I was running errands with my daughter and must have bumped manual mode, and then switched lanes to get around traffic, then was like VEEEEEEEEEE, I look down and thought I went into limp mode because of the heat today. Nope! Just a dumb mistake. Hope she's ok, sorry Scarlett. šŸ˜ž

The rev limiter is there for a reason. I’ve bounced off of it hundreds of times.

Some of us have also stayed at redline for a solid few seconds on track due to the quiet nature of stock exhaust.

Definitely not me, though. Especially at Barber.

The car Gods shined on me and I was able to slide into a 2025 absolute zero MT at sticker. I’m going to miss the 2021 Turbulence Gray but ā€œyes please!ā€
