When I went to a dealer before the lockdown to talk about the pricing and financing details, the one thing I did not think of was extended warranty. The salesman was trying pretty hard to sell me the extended warranty for $5000. I wasn't planning on buying the car that day but I wanted to know more about this warranty. Did anyone get it? if yes, how much did you pay for it? If no, why did you choose not to get it? Is it advisable to pay the extra money for the warranty in case any faults occur? Considering the fact that most of the electronics and parts are BMW, it seems like a good investment.
Thoughts?

DO NOT BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY!!

It is the BIGGEST money grab for a dealer.
1. You might sell the car before even the factory warranty runs out.
2. You might get into an accident and the car is totaled and you decide to buy the new hot car from Nissan instead.
3. When the factory warranty is about to expire, and you want to keep the car, you'll get eleventy billion offers for extended warranty in the mail. And they're usually cheaper.
4. Again, extended warranty at purchase is nothing but a money grab.

i got the extended warranty on my Supra think it was 7 yr 70k or 80k was only $923 so i said fine. I can cancel it before the factory warranty runs out and get full refund. Also if you get into an accident and you total your car you can still cancel and get money back. If its before factory warranty is out you get full refund if after its a partial refund. I considered $900 a hedge on a $60k car

I don’t get it. They tried to jack up my monthly payments with extended warranty, wheel protection, low jack, and etc. It was very annoying bc they pressed for 30 minutes even after I told them I worked for a dealership for 6 years and I know their game. But yet they still tried their game on me...

When I bought my STI they tried to add $9000 worth of extra warranties on it. Tires, wheels, everything. I just laughed. Crooks.

Your dealer seems super shady. My finance guy was like "You probably dont want anything right?" Me"Make me a offer as close to zero as possible and we can talk" ;) The total time in finance was like 10 minutes

yup exactly...after purchasing over 25 new cars in my life time I don't have the patience to listen to someone offering something I don't want....Most Finance guys get it and are happy to move the process along fairly quickly without any pressuring...

$923 is nothing at the end of the day for a 7/8 year warranty, I don't know why that is even worth complaining about. Even if you don't use it, the added peace of mind is well worth it.

Not complaining just simply stating. As the OP had originally said they tried to push him a warranty at 5k, although not sure which Toyota warranty that was and the longevity and the miles it would cover.

I didn't say you were complaining? I am just saying that adding the extra $900 to the purchase price is a no brainer, where as dealer fees, 'processing,' and 'service' fees are actually worth complaining to the salesman since they are solely used to double dip on profits of the car.

I can't believe you got it for 923$. they asked me for 5k and when I started negotiating they said they can bring it down to 3k which is the price of the extended warranty of a Camry apparently. It was the same deal. 7 years/70k miles whichever happens first. Everything except tires was covered.

What about the others. Did they get any warranty for a cheaper price? And the people who did not get, any particular reason? Isn't it useful if something breaks. Especially considering the fact that more than half the car is BMW and parts are expensive.

thats insane i got a 2018 rav4 for my dad and the extended warranty on that was only $580 for 8yr 100k. No way a camry warranty is 3k. Just out of curiousity is that price they gave you only for the warranty or is it for other stuff like tire and rim protection and dent repair, etc.
