I understand how a BOV works, but I’ve seen quite a few installed on Supras that work fine without all of the extra electronics… hence my confusion.

Suede is genuine leather. Alcantara is a branded synthetic product, often known as micro-suede, etc. There is zero chance the Rexspeed steering wheel is actually suede. The two wheels there are very likely the exact same steering wheel, made in the exact same factory.
