Never even thought of what the mkiv concept looked like but interesting to see how more sophisticated and intricate car design has gotten with the MKV concept. Its so much better looking too.
Agreed on the weight advantage on the track. You can of course feel weight differences on the road too but there's so much less situations for a lighter car to shine during regular driving. On the road it's power that impresses and is more useful. Probably why manufacturers have focused on...
Like everyone else I get excited about the idea of a full carbon tub for the Supra but I have my doubts. I can see it for the Supra but I can't see BMW giving a Z4 a full carbon tub, and these two cars are supposed to use the same chassis. The Z4 is already priced $50-60k after options. With a...
Prototypes could already have been out there, disguised as another car. Like they did with the STI for the BRZ.

Because we're talking apples to oranges here. Profit margins on entry level cars are always the lowest and as you start talking about more and more expensive cars, the profit margin goes up. So just because the numbers don't work for the FR-S doesn't mean it won't work for the Supra which will...
One thing I keep wondering is if the comments regarding the "3 sports car line up" relates to Lexus also?
We're all thinking sub-86, 86, and Supra as the Toyota line up. What about Lexus? Could it see one built off the FT-1 platform?
You figure the first concept debuted in Detroit in Jan so this design (color aside) has made it thru the whole US show circuit now. Bunch of the overseas ones too except no Tokyo show this year.
I'm thinking/hoping its time a facelift and another concept early next year...... any day now Toyota...
I don't think there's much of a chance that the FT1 / Supra / Whatever it's called won't be built. The joint platform with BMW is already going ahead so we know Toyota is going to build a mid-sized sports car which will be whatever the FT1 becomes.
If it's going to look like the FT1 concept and goes like hell it'll sell at $50k easy. Besides I'm not sure Toyota even cares to sell a ton of these. It could be a halo effect they're going after. This is the company that lost money making the LFA but did it anyway just cuz...
The project leader Tada san keeps referring to a Supra during his interviews so I think it'd shock every one if it ended p with a different name. Here's the great thread blacksupra started - http://www.supra5forum.com/forums/threads/quotes-from-tetsuya-tada-on-the-ft1-supra.40/
Takes years but I have never known a car still very much in concept stage (as far as we know) that hasn't even finished with their feasibility study to be out testing at Nurburgring. Shrug
Toyota has a good track record for not dragging their feet too long after a concept shows.
..Imagine being the guy who wants to see the next NSX and waiting.....and waiting...
