  1. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

Lol. Just passing on what other people have reported about the ZF 8 for consideration, I've no experience with paddle shifting an 8 speed myself so I don't know how I'd like it. I did test drive an 86 for 20 minutes using paddle shifting; it felt a bit weird and game-like, as if I was driving a...
  2. Toyota Supra to be launched in 2019 under Gazoo performance brand GR / GRMN related topics

From what I have seen on Bimmerpost, it's not the paddles per se that are an issue for some - it's the fact that they are hooked to an 8 speed box. Having so many gears means you are constantly shifting (especially on a car that accelerates quickly), and several posters with ZF-8s there have...
  3. Should Toyota Supra keep FT-1 2+2 configuration? Or lose backseats?

For me what's more important is that the total storage area is adequate - and reasonably shaped. It'd be great if it was as good as the 86's but that is not happening. I'm hoping it's at least twice as big as a Miata's and more useful than the 370Z's.
  4. Forbes Article States 3.0 I-6 w/ 360 Horsepower, Spring '19, $60k

Nobody is saying "take away the option for heel-toeing", just give others the option not to do it if they don't want to. What's the problem with that? "I don't want rev-matching so you can't have it either" sounds like the kind of response you'd expect to witness in a kindergarten class... Sales...
  5. What will the FT-1 be called? Supra trademark revived by Toyota!

^ Interesting inference, but GT1's a risky name to go with - given its legacy in motorsport, "GT1" sets a very high standard to live up to, Toyota will be subject to ridicule if the car is anything short of perfection.
  6. Forbes Article States 3.0 I-6 w/ 360 Horsepower, Spring '19, $60k

The usual predictable elitist argument here, mixed with not-so-humblebrag. Fact: even some full-time car journalists find heel-toe too fussy and tricky, and love the auto-revmatching. For those who want to heel-toe all the time, go for it! Just don't impose your own wishes on everybody else. As...
  7. 2019 Toyota Supra Prototype Reveals Production Intent Design/Parts

^ The hood and front fenders there better be padded, they look awfully high which isn't great for sightlines and gives the front deck area a bulbous look.
  8. Forbes Article States 3.0 I-6 w/ 360 Horsepower, Spring '19, $60k

Seems obvious why rev matching is becoming increasingly popular - you get the fun of manually shifting without having to bother with the finicky aspects of heel-toe which if they go wrong can create extra wear on your clutch and driveline, and, if you are near the adhesion limit when cornering...
  9. All-new 2023 Nissan Z makes world debut!

They are such huge cars though, with terrible outward visibility. If I was going for big and musclely I'd take a 2018 Mustang GT with the PP2 - much more liveable car for about half the money.
  10. Forbes Article States 3.0 I-6 w/ 360 Horsepower, Spring '19, $60k

X100. Loved many things about that car, but that terrible Subie engine killed it for me. Plus the infotainment system blows chunks, it belongs in a 10 year old Lada. (Also, it needs a rev-matching toggle.)
  11. Crickets... give us some news Toyota!

Nope - they have none of the beneficial ingredients found in coffee, just too much caffeine - and far too much sugar. :D
  12. Crickets... give us some news Toyota!

I would not be too concerned at this point - the levels of the chemical in question (acrylamide) are 1000 to 100,000 times lower from coffee consumption than the levels that were used to induce cancer in rodents. And the epidemiological research support for coffee's health benefits is strong...
  13. Toyota Supra finally spied testing Stateside!

Just checked the source for the Scott26 quotes - they are ANCIENT, over 2 years old and can safely be disregarded at this point without more recent corroboration. Edit: ninja'd by Brett.
  14. Toyota Supra finally spied testing Stateside!

^ Interesting - the emphasis on light weight is very encouraging, provided they don't go crazy with expensive materials or manufacturing processes and push the cost of the Supra into Vette territory. No both BMW and Toyota will offer differing designs. The BMW launches first as a Roadster...
  15. Competitor engine tech for response and power expectations

What you propose re hybrid tech would be great for an eventual top-line Supra, but from all accounts it won't be seen on the initial release. Turbo tech has come a long way since the 2006 release of the mk2 TT. Twin turbos, dual turbos (with one larger than the other), twin scroll, variable...
  16. Toyota Supra finally spied testing Stateside!

I hereby nominate you to be a mod on this forum....:D
  17. Toyota Supra finally spied testing Stateside!

They no doubt already have, on private testing grounds, in wind tunnels, and maybe even on rented tracks. I think at this stage it would be too close to production to make major changes in any body panels. The body padding slow striptease routine is common to nearly all auto manufacturers, it's...
  18. Ordering Process For New Supra

There isn't one in Canada - but then Toyota sells cars at a lower profit margin here than they do in Australia (pricing them lower in USD terms).
  19. Ordering Process For New Supra

And the cost of offering that "free" service was built into the premium you would have paid to buy that car, so it wouldn't really have been free at all. Marketing 101. "No additional charge" would be correct.
  20. Ordering Process For New Supra

And you are paying for that luxury as part of your BMW or Audi premium.... I doubt Toyota really cares if anyone's excited about buying their appliances, as long as people keep buying them. It would be very surprising if they made this tracking service available. Now if the Supra was a Lexus...
