It will be very interesting to see just how successful this car is, both in sales and with reviewers. There is an amazing amount of Hatorade being spewed on it by the commentariat in the major car blogs whenever this car is the subject of a story. I can't recall a performance car that has had so...
Two concerns on the use of a four here: p/w and the sound. If it comes in at the rumoured 265hp the weight will need to be no more than 3000 lbs for minimally acceptable performance, even assuming a fat, flat torque curve. And then there is the sound, very few 4s sound good, none I can think of...
Interesting that R&T claims that there are "tons of cool aerodynamic components throughout the car, which here, are covered up with fake plastic vents." There is only one way they could know that these are fake.... very encouraging statement.
A camo wrap is what, 1 mm thick? I don't think the optical distortion it would create would be that significant.
But there may be some foreshortening of the prototype's image in the Goodwood photo as a result of the use of a telephoto lens that exaggerates the degree of the problem.
That may be partly a result of the camera angle, but the hoodline together with the front end certainly do appear to detract to some degree from a sportscar look. The cowl and hood's a bit too high, flat where it should descend to the front, and the front wheel arches are too fat and don't wrap...
Maybe the engine is, but from all I've heard, the clutch slave cylinder on current-gen Zs is almost guaranteed to need replacement fairly early. Haven't seen anything to suggest this problem was solved with the switch to an Exedy clutch in 2018, but it may have been.
Tada's "on par" remark may be a reference to a power/weight ratio equivalence; with the Supra being lighter it needs less power to match the Lexus F Series cars.
Maybe in their eyes, but not in that of the vast majority of the Supra's potential customers. I suspect Toyota won't be arrogant or stupid enough to price themselves out of the market by pretending "Supra" = "Porsche" in terms of desirability.
Assuming Nissan decides to keep any new Z car in the same price tier it's currently in, it's not going to be competing with the Supra, which looks to be much more expensive.
Not to mention the fact that the Miata is around 700 lbs lighter, so with its power to weight ratio it will outrun any Z4 or Supra with less than about 230 horsepower. Hard to give credence to any claim that BMW will be producing a 150 hp version.
Does not compute....
Canada (some Americans' perceptions to the contrary) is not the 51st US state. It won't be imposing import tariffs on Japanese cars just because the US does. In fact if tariffs do get applied to the Supra by the US, the resultant oversupply of vehicles due to lower US...
Right now, I'd agree, maybe I will get used to it, or it won't look so odd IRL.
I'm afraid that anyone hoping this car will have the visual appeal of an Aston Martin or even a 911 is going to be disappointed. It's not an ugly car, but compared to what might have been, it's a lost opportunity...
Could be partly that; if the Euro CO2 tests are done in the non-boosted state then it's a way of sneaking some extra power in at a lower pollution classification resulting in less emissions tax per unit of performance for the buyer.
But the deactivation after a set time may be primarily due to...
