Also: Seats are different, nicer ribbed seats on the 124. And the 124's manual transmission is from the previous-generation Miata. I think the auto trans is a shared component as well.
A Detroit debut is highly doubtful. The NAIAS, despite its name, is really a 2nd-tier domestic show now, and I can't see any major Japanese automaker launching a new halo car there. BMW, VW, Porsche, Mercedes, and Audi aren't even showing up next year.
3500 lbs?
If the 45k car weighs 3500 lbs it's DOA, a complete non-starter. Hell, the 10 year old, 330 hp 370Z weighs 3292 lbs and can be had for $29,000 CAD.
Yes and no - the pillars have a substantial chrome strip overlay running their full length so even though the pillars are black the roof doesn't look like it's floating.
That car still looks incredible, no surprise that they cost a fortune.
I wasn't aware Toyota was making blacked out A pillars a feature these days - Toyota's styling has been so poor recently I haven't given it any attention (except for the 86, and look what they did to that with the refresh). So you're probably right, the Supra will likely have them too.
Lots of things on the FT1 that were unconventional don't appear on the prototypes. Blacked-out A pillars are not conventional either, so there is some likelihood they will not be there when the wrap comes off.
+1. Not a fan of the black A pillars that give the roof a weirdly detached look, but I doubt those will be on the production car.
And those headlights aren't attractive. If you consider sports cars most people find beautiful like the 911 or the Astons, they all have great looking headlights...
Actually what you describe is exactly what I'd like to see, I have no interest in a Corvette class car. But even a 300 hp version should have 18" wheels.
For most brands you can't do a simple currency rate conversion to figure out how much a US car will cost based on Canadian pricing. When the USD costs $1.29 CDN, as it does now, the premium for a car here in Canada usually ranges from 10-20% over US prices, depending on brand and model - most...
Telling you that would probably violate his NDA, pricing will remain a closely guarded secret until release.
I used to think upper 40s CAD for the initial base model, but more recent "info" suggests it's more likely mid 50s, i.e. base Vette pricing which for me is too big a gap from a 31k 86.
No. Non. Nein.
Does anyone really think the test engineers are going to do something that egregiously stupid? What you are seeing is just an artifact of the oblique lighting creating shadows.
