No button press will be required. As with the Fiesta ST it will be automatically triggered at full throttle and it typically lasts from 15 to 20 seconds so plenty of time for any conceivable use short of a long track straight.
True. Even if performance turns out to be identical, if Toyota delivers for $10k less than the Bimmer it will be in good shape relative to its competition.
A question remains about the car's styling, whether it is going to be sufficiently appealing to attract enough buyers. Can't judge that...
That was before Toyota helped them improve their performance though. Any delta at production not due to engine power/torque differences is likely to be small.
The no-manuals tsunami claims another victim: the mid-engined C8...

Paradoxically pleased about the lower power as it's going to mean Toyota's price target is probably lower than the $55k USD that's been suggested here...
Reasonably good forwards, you can see tops of the fenders, helpful for positioning the car (although compared to pretty much any Honda you won't be seeing much above the tops of the street lights). Very large rear-quarter blind spots. Out the back window - could be worse, but not great.
LOL. So true, especially for the Camaro.
OTOH I'm not sure the Supra is going to be that great in the visibility department - it's got a high cowl and side windowline relative to the driver's position, with a low greenhouse. And those massive C pillars out back will create big blindspots.
I was looking at what you could get for the same cash outlay as the Supra. A Porsche of comparable performance will be much more expensive, with the Cayman S starting at $69,300 USD very minimally equipped.
Will the Supra be able to siphon off significant numbers of potential Cayman buyers...
In tinkering with the facsia design maybe they will take into account a view expressed in auto blog comments about the front end of the car - I have seen several comparisons being made (complete with photos in a couple of instances) between the Supra nose and a hand-held dust buster....
$55k is base Corvette pricing so lets compare : 455 hp, 460 torques, 3298 lbs, w/p 7.24
Supra (per A70): ~375 hp, likely 330-350 torques with i6(?), ~3050 lbs, w/p 8.13
Buyers will have to decide if the Vette's power advantage is worth trading off for the Supra's lighter weight, smaller form...
If the car does come in at $55k in the States the lowest possible MSRP for Canada will be about $60k. Add 13% for federal plus Ontario tax (HST) along with the standard ~$1750 for Canadian delivery and PDI we get $71k CAD. Ouch.
And the burn is likely to be worse - a base Corvette costing $55k...
In light of this latest news it's obvious that the Supra will be an amazing car. Unfortunately it's become equally obvious that a $45k US starting price is a total fantasy, Corvette money will be required. Those looking for a mid-tier sportscar one step up from an 86 are SOL (in fact they're...
