  1. Thinking of selling Supra for a Lotus Emira - Opinions?

In my situation, I already had an NC PRHT Miata with 6 speed manual, so I opted for an auto transmission Supra, which is both faster and thriftier on fuel compared to a manual version. Storage: The Supra had a pass-through hatch area where I can store groceries without their being cooked by the...
  2. Thinking of selling Supra for a Lotus Emira - Opinions?

I agree. I had a $2500 deposit on an Emira but backed out due to the constant quality issues posted in the UK Lotus forum. The nearest dealership to me is 80 miles, so.... And while the Emira is more rare than our Supra's, the Supra's are not far behind. When I was visting relatives in CT, I...
  3. Neutral override

So just to be clear, you push (not rotate) the lever shown towards the transmission? I see a pin, rib, and cradle in the photo. The lever looks like it can rotate, but I've never had to touch it.
  4. Official MIKAN BLAST Supra Club Thread

Dinan I like their low-tone sound and sales event they recently had. A close second was the Borla ATAK.
  5. Official MIKAN BLAST Supra Club Thread

Purchased 11/2023: Now sits a bit lower on Dinan springs (but haven't taken any good shots of it, yet) and will have a new exhaust system installed within 1.5 weeks
  6. How to test your exhaust's sound level

That appears to be more "forgiving" than our California test. Thanks for explaining your requirements, which make more sense than ours. The part that bothers me the most is that whether we get a ticket or not is very subjective. I was told that many cars from the factory will not pass the test...
  7. How to test your exhaust's sound level

6/26/2025: I updated the setup drawing and video in my first post.
  8. How to test your exhaust's sound level

Before buying the sound meter, I used an app in my phone to measure sound levels for various things (like the house and shop vac noise levels) to help me determine whether to use ear plugs or noise-blocking headphones. But when it comes to being more precise, a dedicated sound meter by a...
  9. How to test your exhaust's sound level

At 20 inches, you'd catastrophically fail! I do agree that the CA test description is not very clear. I kept my sound meter at level position but 45° from the tail pipe (which is level with the ground) position. You angled your sound meter to about 45°. I may contact the referee to clarify...
  10. Normal vs Sport for longevity?

The majority of the time my car is in Normal mode is when I am cruising on the highway. Being in Sport mode during this time is advantageous only if I were to be looking for someone to race. Otherwise, there is no advantage to Sport mode, only the disadvantage of getting less fuel mileage at...
  11. Normal vs Sport for longevity?

There are cars out there that have owners' manuals that state that prolonged use of Sport mode is not recommended (My 2014 Mazda 2.5 S GT was one), but I don't recall reading anything similar in my Supra manual. I never start out in Sport mode after a cold start, mostly because I want the car to...
  12. How to test your exhaust's sound level

Latest development: I just had a talk with a CA noise-testing employee. He sent me a more detailed guide with layout of the test setup. I changed my drawing to the attached. Here's the youtube link:
  13. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

My point is that I already have a loud, top-down car that I use much more sparingly, now that I have the Supra which has a better stereo. If you drive at 80 mph in a windows-down Supra often enough, you will almost certainly enjoy the quietness of a windows-up drive at high speeds. If I ate...
  14. Disappointed with Dinan

Thanks. I did order the polished SST tips.
  15. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

If I were to get the ECU unlocked and tuned, then yes, that would make sense.
  16. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

Wearing a helmet significantly reduces wind noise and protects hearing degradation in a vehicle with a very loud exhaust.
  17. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

They also require that you wear a helmet.
  18. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

80 mph with the windows up has nothing to do with "saving it for the next guy". It's called enjoying a Playlist of 40+ songs. Of course, I do occasionally put the window down at higher speeds so I can extend an Insta360 video camera-on-an-extension pole out it while on a roll to a cars&coffee...
  19. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

At 80 mph? At that speed there will be lots of wind noise, whether it's buffeting or not.
  20. Toyota Finally Added OEM Wind Buffeting Deflectors??

I have to wonder why anyone would need to drive with their windows down at 80 MPH or higher. Up to 40 or 50, I don't have a problem with buffeting. Windows are up, most of the time, anyway.
