A targa is a must on the Supra, if they want it to represent the spirit of the MKIV. Make it standard on all turbo models (assuming MKV has the same model tiering)
TBH i'd rather not see a Supra vert, for selfish reasons since the more options/body styles the more expensive a car tends to be with all those costs built into the base price.
That also means they need to put extra bracing into the pillars (of both coupe and convertible) to account for the...
I should add, it's obviously just Calty's own theoretical price range but I am sure Toyota gave them an idea of where this will be positioned in the market so they knew their theoretical limits when designing.
Hear it? Hear what? There's barely a real engine inside I dont think hearing it would be of any use. It's just a shell to show off the design , Id be surprised if they do more than a slow roll off the flat bed when they unload it.
Here I found it, check it out. This breaks down all the weight components of the C7. It managed to put on 90 pounds over the 2013 model even as it lost 100 pounds in the frame and 37 pounds in the body panels. It just shows you how all of these things adds up.
I'm not trying to rain on any...
Do you guys not realize the new C7 actually gained weight from the previous year? It shed weight in some areas but it was offset by all the added equipment and beefier parts.
The C7 is also a 2 seater and uses a good deal of carbon fiber already. It would be a miracle if the FT-1 with a 2+2...
Yea they are calling it Fusionstang all over the boards. It's not like people don't know that Ford makes the Mustang why make it look like their boring sedan?
Like the Mustang the Supra is an icon in its own right.
TBH i hate corporate design language but it is a reality. The old generation supras shared styling too. It just pains me seeing iconic nameplates look like crap minivans or crossovers in the line up.
No way in hell it's that low. Calty was given orders to build a 50-60k car.
That calls into question the rest of the article, call it wishful thinking but I think we will see it at the end of 2016.
Forums these days are a great place for companies to gauge reaction and interest among enthusiasts. A car like the FT-1 is not going to catch on with the mainstream average joe. It'll be spawned off the backs of enthusiasts who clamor for the iconic name to be remade. I bet they are monitoring...
Agreed and on top of being instantly recognizable, it is simple and without all the fuss of these confusing alphanumeric names with letters and numbers and dashes. For guys like me who grew up in the 80's revering this car, the Supra will instantly get people's attention and into showrooms.
To bring this back on topic, does Toyota need the FT-1? I would say in order to stay relevant in the top performance game absolutely.
The twins are great cars but they need a HALO car that gets talked about in the same light as the GT-R's of the world.
That's not how it works. This is a US trademark only good for use in this country obviously. I dont know how it works in japan but I imagine they have their own system.
It's more than just numbers when your talking performance cars. Sure they could end up selling less than 10K a year but even taking some market share and mindshare away from the BMW and Muscle car variants in this category works to Toyota's benefit.
Halo cars are about brand cachet, bragging...
