  1. SoCal Inland Empire Meetups!

Some pics from this morning's Elite Finish Cars & Coffee event in the Miramar area of San Diego: Massive crowd and many types of cars and bikes. At least 8 or so GR Supras, some GR Corollas and a couple of IS500s pre-met then headed down to the event. It was a beautiful day.
  2. Driving like a granny 😅

Consumer Reports's 0-60 times have always been very "conservative". For example, look at the Corvette's time. Car & Driver did 2.8 seconds for that car and 3.7 seconds for the Supra 3.0. C&D also achieved a 5.4 second 0-60 for the Mazda MX5.
  3. Driving like a granny 😅

Before you drive off with your new car, take a thorough look at it. My inside was good but the front emblem had chips missing from its chrome ring. There is also a small paint inclusion or two. And yes, my car was leaking diff fluid at sometime between 600 and 700 miles. It is a long story that...
  4. Do I really need this at 30k miles?

I believe I read that at least some Audi direct injection engines (2.0 turbo) require walnut blasting at 60,000 miles.
  5. Still waiting... How long have you been waiting for your GR Supra allocation/order/update etc.?

What luck! I would've had to pay over $5k to have the whole car done. I did have the side skirts done in carbon fiber to match the mirror caps. Would you recommend the windshield film for street use? Also, does the film adversely affect the windshield wiper motion at all?
  6. Do I really need this at 30k miles?

Is it in your manual? If not, I would say no, it is not necessary.
  7. Still waiting... How long have you been waiting for your GR Supra allocation/order/update etc.?

I waited a week or two before spending $3500 on STEK PPF. Only the roof and back of the car are not covered.
  8. Still waiting... How long have you been waiting for your GR Supra allocation/order/update etc.?

Congrats! You will definitely love the car. I always come up with a reason to drive my 45th. It's rare enough to be like an exotic that is almost never seen on the roads.
  9. Still waiting... How long have you been waiting for your GR Supra allocation/order/update etc.?

Congrats! If you do make it a road trip, consider keeping it under 4500 rpm and 100 MPH. I did for 1200 miles and it was tough to hold back.
  10. 2024 Supra 3.0 non-premium 6MT question

True, but I believe that when most people refer to rotor material, they are referring to the rotor disc material. As you know, the vast majority of brake rotor discs are made of cast iron alloy. An XRF alloy analyzer is often used to verify correct alloy material percentages. I used one during a...
  11. Faint tick/click noise low speed 10-20mph

You're certainly doing the right checks. Now if you only had a dyno, at least you could rule out the rear of your car.
  12. Faint tick/click noise low speed 10-20mph

I would think that having your car on a lift with transmission in drive may allow you to pinpoint the location of the source of the noise. Have you tried this? You can also spin the front tires by hand.
  13. 2024 Supra 3.0 non-premium 6MT question

Rotors are never made of aluminum. They are typically made of a cast iron alloy.
  14. Supra On a Flyer at VIR

I said that OEM oil is not changed before Lightning Lap runs (before lap times are recorded). I thought that was fairly clear. It looks like you are insinuating that C&D borrows the tested cars from private owners who may enhance their cars in one way or another. I don't think that is the case.
  15. Supra On a Flyer at VIR

During Car and Driver’s Lightning Lap event, which is an annual track test featuring the fastest vehicles of the year on Virginia International Raceway’s 4.1-mile Grand Course, the magazine evaluates a variety of cars against the clock. While the specific details about the engine oil used during...
  16. Supra On a Flyer at VIR

What cars? I thought we were talking about Supras.
  17. Anyone see any orange 45th anniversary Supras on the road?

It seems to me that here in Southern Cali, Supras are universally admired. (Well, except by Tesla owners). And given the number of modified Supras out there, it's obvious that respect tends to be a bit higher than is warranted at times. That fine with me. On another note, my PRHT MX5 does tend...
  18. Supra On a Flyer at VIR

I added the smiley face because of what seems to be a prevailing thought among some people that 0W-20 is like water and thus is dangerous. I'm fairly sure that the Car & Driver testers at VIR (Lightning Lap runs) did not change the oil in any of the vehicles they tested.
  19. Anyone see any orange 45th anniversary Supras on the road?

A friend texted me the other day, asking if I was in the nearby city, since for the first time, he saw an orange 45th anniversary Supra while waiting at the light. In fact, I had gone to get gas at Costco and was returning home when he saw my car. He rolled down his window to hear the exhaust...
  20. Supra On a Flyer at VIR

Even with 0W-20 factory oil? ;)
