This got me at first. I was also expecting it to be a full hybrid, not just a mild hybrid. However when you look at where this is aimed in the market, it is actually on the lighter side of the spectrum. Shocking, I know (I still wish it would be lighter, but alas...).
I don't think it's really...
TBH i wouldn't mind seeing the current gen prius kitted up and with a WEC hypercar inspired, plug-in hybrid drivetrain. That would slap. Hard.
AWD, electro turbocharged 400ish hp? Yes please.
*IF* Toyota produced the Celica, MR2 **and** A supra, I prmise you the Supra will scratch $100k, especially if it's done in house. They knew what they were ding with the BMW alliance.
Note that the "Mk 5 Final edition" will be $155k.
My take on all this?
Celica and MR-2 will share a platform if they do bring both to the market.
Celica will come in at the top end of the GR Yaris/GR Corolla price point
MR-2 Will be at the current Mk5 Supra price point
Next Supra will go up in price. Maybe it may even have a Lexus version to...
Side note. I hate that we've adopted calling this car the LFR (ick.... even more ick cause of who popularized calling it such). I don't think this car is LFA levels of bespoke. It would of course out perform it by a country mile, but LFA is not. The LFA replacement is likely the EV super car...
Outside Testing
This car could probably be ready to race next year, but the holdup is probably the street car. Obviously, a GT3 car cannot be homologated without a road going version.
Oh this I know. I'm just saying would be nice. Even if it's something along the line of a beefed up A90/A91 Edition model. Not sure the market is there for anything with much more volume than that anyway.
Also, I don't think there is any necessity whatsoever in having the S58 installed. A properly fettled B58 will do absolutely everything that would be needed, and while I don't mind being proven wrong, I doubt BMW would let an S58 into anything but an M car.
I have no doubt that a GRMN will turn up. That being said, it's going to be a) Limited and b) expensive (But I'd also bet it's worth every penny and then some).
I dunno what some of you are expecting, but it sounds like many are asking for a $75k GRMN Supra? LOL right. Keep dreaming. A GT-R...
