I get that Toyota need to leave space between the 4 pot Supra and the next 86... Makes me wish they had kept the Supra B58 only, then there would be more room for a turbo 86 with 250-260 HP.
Unfortunately, I am not sure a 220HP gen 2 86 makes a compelling case for an upgrade to current owners...
Very much doubt they would reduce the price. It will be similar or cost more, especially outside the USA. The relative high price is one of the things that held sales back in places like Europe, where faster, more powerful hot hatches cost less than the 86.
If they add turbo, it will cost...
Me too. The rumours about just 220HP from a NA FA24 disappoint me. If this comes out in 2021/2022, it will be basically 10 years on from the initial release of the 200HP 86. A 20HP increase after 10 years is poor for a dedicated sports car. Compare to hot hatches, they have added much more power...
Iād take a turbo 1.8 boxer over a NA 2.4 if Iām honest. In many ways, the turbo 1.8 makes way more sense. It will probably meet emissions more easily, it stays below 2L engine displacement and thus avoids the extra purchasing costs that 2+L cars attract in countries lie Japan, and the turbo 1.8...
Seems a bit ācheapā to put 18s on a $95k car (a $40k Camry SX gets 19s), or is it just me? I realise they need to provide some reason to step to the top trim, but still...
Now that the official pricing is out, and itās higher than I can justify to myself, Iām thinking about other cars I might...
Yeah, not feeling that 50th edition scheme. Poor Z, it deserves better. The heritage edition was OK, but I think the standard, no sticker paint still looks the best.
Iām honestly (pleasantly) surprised the Z34 is still on sale in 2019. It looks increasingly like Nissan will not replace it with...
Hakone looks great, especially the colour and the wheels. But yeah, only yet more minor cosmetic changes. There are two things I really wish my 86 had, more stock power and a liftback for practicality. Hoping the next gen 86 satisfies both, since I suspect the Supra will be priced too high here...
Conversely, my 86 has been the most reliable car Iāve had, but it is a 2015 build, when most of the issues have been worked out.
Yeah, probably a good idea. Let the early adopters pay top price, and find all the issues, then get the revised model with most of the issues already remedied. ;)
Hmm, from what is being reported by affected owners, the problem isnāt the engine or age of it as such, it is in cowboy dealers not waiting for the proper instructions, and not using the correct sealant in the correct ratios (with the result of sealant breaking away and gunking up the engine)...
Take anything written about upcoming cars published by motoring.com.au with a huge pinch of salt. Their track record on reliable reporting, particularly about new sportscars, is hilariously awful. They also predicted an 86 convertible, a turbo version, and even an 86 sedan, in prior years. None...
They went quite far with the SF-R, debuting more than one version at motor shows, even doing up a commercial which is still up on YT I think. Seems like a lot of effort compared to the typical concept that has no production plans.
I would too, but I think a few factors work against it going...
Actually, Australia is well known to be a performance car loving market. An interesting fact I recall reading about... Australia was the 2nd largest market in the world for the 3rd gen RS Megane, after France. Let that sink in. We bought more RS Meganes than much larger European markets like...
To quote X-files (giving away my age there), "I want to believe..." But the pessimist in me suggests it could be the complete opposite, and they are holding out to try and see what the maximum they can charge will be, based on OS demand. :( But think positive thoughts! ;)
If you are reading...
I canāt believe how bad TMCA are dragging their heels. We might get an announcement by the middle of this year on how we might be able to order the thing and how much it might cost? And yet exact specs, pricing, and ordering has already begun in the rest of the world? What are they waiting on...
Much as I admire Porsche engineering and performance, at a certain point you have to wonder why he keeps buying them with that track record. Two lemons from one āpremiumā brand would probably sway me away from that brand ever again! Mind you, if you love 911s, there are not many options that are...
There is a reason why V engines are popular when the cylinder count rises - they are inherently shorter and thus better for front to rear balance. A longitudinally mounted V6 is half the length of a straight 6, which makes it easier to keep the weight of the engine closer to the centre of the...
This looks hideous. Nose too short, bum too long, and it looks too tall and cutesy. I much prefer the SF-R concept. I really hope this design has nothing to do with the 3rd sportscar brother Toyota say they want. Please no.
I really think Toyota should work with Mazda, and share the MX-5 platform. Toyota could surely fit an SF-R like coupe body over it. And use one of their own engines for a change. Most of the work is done, the MX-5 is already fantastic, and if Toyota are determined to platform share for all their...
LOL, just fantasy renders. It is doubtful there will be any new Z, ever, and if there is, it won't be a RWD petrol powered coupe like the current one. More likely to be a hybrid or fully electric, five door, 'coupe SUV' like the GripZ abomination from a couple of years ago.
It's sad, but that's...
More West than East though. Engineered, powered, and manufactured by Europe. āChassis ātunedā by the East. Definitely not a āhalfer,ā more like 1/4 Eastern, at most, sadly.
