Appreciate this write-up. I'm using your posts, SPL instructions, and the one youtube video that goes through install to piece things together.
If you look at 21:50 of the youtube video, it shows the ball joint comes right out after he loosens the nut on top. I'm having a hard time following...
So did you drive the car for a while with just the rear traction links? I'm curious the differences you noted driving with only rear traction links vs. all the other rear components.
Both the rear traction links and the rear upper arms are most critical? I want to upgrade, but SPL sells so many different components it is hard to identify best price to performance benefit. They also have rear toe links, swaybar endlinks, and bumpsteer adjustable tie rod ends.
Thanks for all the tips. I think I’ll leave traction control all on, put it in sport individual (engine to normal). Not sure if I should keep it in 2nd or 3rd gear the whole time, or automatic. Maybe I’ll give both a try
Specific to stock 3.0L Supra on…
automatic Vs manual mode?
Sport Vs normal mode?
tire pressure? NE Ohio supposed to be 67 deg and 60% chance of rain
thanks ! Looking forward to it !
Nice build, and great to hear about the performance of the pads. Leaning toward the Endless pads since I track, autocross, and street. Are they very loud on the street?
What would be the pros/cons of getting this over the SPL lower front control arms? They are similarly priced, but the control arms have more adjustability
I edited my first slide with this info in case anyone comes across this topic in the future. Maybe it will be different in the future, but for now, here is my thought process:
I’m going with generic option as opposed to BMW star because the rear tire width in the star BMW is almost an inch...
Update on differences for front:
Generic: 24# and 8.5” tread
Mercedes: 24# and 8.5” tread
BMW Star: 25# and 9” tread
differences for rear:
Generic: 27# and 9.8” tread
BMW Star: 26# and 8.9” tread
Mercedes: not carried by tire rack
so 1/2” wider tread in front, but 1” narrower tread in the...
Thanks for the info. Based on the search results, would you go for the “generic” first set that came up, or for the second set with MO1 front and star bmw rear combo? Sounds like there’s no real way to know.
Yeah - but it makes me a little uneasy that there is something different about those fronts, and that's why it doesn't come up when you search by Supra. No idea what not having that "Z" in there could mean, but it the only thing that is different.
*EDIT: I’m going with generic option as opposed to BMW star because the rear tire width in the star BMW is almost an inch less than generic. Also, the 4S wasn’t designed for the Supra, like the stock MPSS were. Here are the major difference I found on tire rack:
FRONT: 255/35ZR19
Generic: 24#...
Cool thanks. Did you go PLUS or standard MX72s? I’ve read all good things on the Endless and CSGs in terms of performance. I’m down to these 3 choices for triple duty street, autox, track that won’t squeal like a pig on the street:
1. CSG CP. $850. Friction .43-.49u. Temps 50-700C
2. Endless...
I’m glad you said this because I keep having an inner debate that maybe I should just get the HP+ Instead of the HPS 5.0, and maybe they won’t be too annoying on the street.
you have the HP+ on the Supra? How do you like the performance?
I don’t have first hand experience, but most of what I’ve read says the increase in squeal with the Hawk HPS is minimal over stock. The Hawk HP+, which is the entry level dedicated track pad from Hawk, gets a lot of complaints on squeal
Makes sense. I’ve only done 3 track days (mid-Ohio) and I thought the stock pads felt pretty good from my novice point of view… so the hawk HPS should be a good small bump up.
