I would say to that the same thing I felt from the beginning: if no factory manual Supra is offered then the only acceptable alternative is any other suitably fun and acceptable manual equipped model. There will be plenty of time to enjoy a slew of automatic-only or transmission-less performance...
That transition to EV and hybrid-EV is already starting with the expensive luxury GT sedans. I do like the E-Tron GT as well but I want to see it directly compared to the Porsche Taycan it is based on.
What is "GER" in this context?
As far as the Supra badge going away... you may be right that...
Select "CC", then select the gear symbol and manually change the auto-translate to Japanese-English. It's marginal translation at best but it sort of works. Unless you've already tried that in which case, disregard.
.....
Here's what I got from it:
They briefly address something about the...
This great little kei sportscar model never made it outside of Japan. It's the closest thing Honda has made to the 1990's mid-engine Beat and it seems it will be discontinued soon. Further, the article's author speculates on the reasons why possibly suggesting that kei cars in general may...
^^ I appreciate Akio Toyoda's mandate to the engineering team. At the same time I understand what they are up against. ECU tuning, changing the rear differential gearing (from existing parts bin options that enthusiasts already use now almost certainly), wheel diameter, tire selection...
The only hurdle that should realistically exist for a succeeding A100 series Supra is Toyota's bleeding edge solid state battery technology. It's a given that a successor will have to be a hybrid-electric high performance model at minimum and to do it with conventional lithium-ion battery...
Here’s hoping MY2023 will finally introduce a manual model... and not only on the 2.0L.
The GRMN, if it ever goes on sale outside of Japan, will be fantastic as a halo edition but will be virtually unobtainable.
Aside from the good news about the Supra GRMN what bothers me about this article is the continued suggestion that Toyota will just kill off the Supra altogether after the A90.... after they *just* brought it back. That would be pretty shortsighted if true.
There should be an A100 successor...
^^ If that M2 prototype is based on a modified version of the Z4/Supra platform it doesn’t show it much. Or maybe it is excellent camouflage and my small phone screen tricking me.
I love how it drives though!
Thank you for the heads up! I filled out their survey for fun.
While they are of course looking for feedback on their GR Super Sport (though it's so rare and expensive you have to wonder why they wouldn't court likely buyers more directly) I felt like it was a good opportunity to give them...
Now the big question I have is: are we still getting a 260hp+ 1.6L 3-cylinder AWD 6-speed M/T powered Celica GR hatchback in addition to this Toyota and Subaru collaboration on a new WRX STI and new Celica GT-Four/GR-Four... or is the Celica GR powered by the GR Yaris drivetrain now scrapped in...
While I do agree that the MKV is an incredible platform and will outperform any fully stock MKIV TT 6-speed or Auto, as currently stands there is a big problem with being able to tune the newer MKV ECUs. Even on its stock ECU the MKIV TT (USDM/UK/EU/Export spec) can use a boost cut eliminator...
It’s fair to pit stock vs stock vs stock but when each of those engines are intended to be tuned by the owner I feel like it mostly comes down to what kind of Supra you want.
They also should have included a JDM MKIII TT-R.
I really hope that's an option as well on the GRMN. I also hope it would not be the *only* MKV with an I-6 engine and manual transmission given that the 200 examples will be incredibly rare, very expensive and more or less garage queens.
I am pretty sure that nearly all of us would make an exception if an LFA were affordable enough and/or far less rare... but it isn’t so I understand PerformanceSound’s argument.
I also get CSUfiend’s reasoning for buying a GS400 in the early 2000’s. At the time they were considered fast and...
