Honestly? I love hearing about how an FD actually *was* (or still is) someone’s practical daily driver. Following the care and maintenance schedule faithfully and upgrading the cooling system among other things seem to be the keys to keeping those engines and their apex seals happy.
It’s good...
The more you rev it the more oil you consume by design ;)
I believe it. Having just gone through the entire process of removing the stock 2JZ twin turbos and replacing them with new ones with the engine in the vehicle I totally believe your old mechanic’s advice even though it’s a different...
The RX-7 FD has been a bucket list car for me. The lines are stunning even today (although the MKV is up there as well in looks!) and despite the need to upgrade the cooling system and intercooler among other things just to achieve better reliability it’s one of the best and most balanced...
^^ You've really hit the nail on the head with that. I don't understand the attitude either from a car culture standpoint. I like all kinds of cars new and old using many kinds of drivetrain designs. There is no one "right" car.
I understand why in general *manufacturers* are offering far less...
Yeah, that's for sure. It's definitely not worth it. As if he thinks he's going to influence what I feel like buying. As I said, I'm not at all dogging on the ZF8 or anyone's enjoyment of it. It's a great transmission. I'm just not interested in it, myself.
lol. I’m just not interested in one of this generation unless it’s offered. If it isn’t ever offered by the end of MKV production then fine.
I fail to understand how my own interest in Toyota offering a manual transmission option for this sportscar harms your enjoyment of your own Supra MKV in...
Cool! Enjoy the ZF8 in your Supra. You already have everything you want in this car already (maybe with the exception of an S58 engine?).
If Toyota does end up selling a manual Supra though no one will force you to buy one over an automatic edition.
For the model years 2021 and 2022 no the Supra won’t get a manual option.
For model years 2023-2026 we’ll see. It’s very telling that the sole special edition Supra for the 2022 model year is a carbon fiber appearance and trim package thanks to covid slowing everything down over the last year...
It looks plausible to me. If Toyota had built the S-FR platform entirely themselves they would have to use it on one or more production models to justify the R&D costs.
Supposedly they are but as to what it is I’ve heard no details.
If they are working on something based on the 2-Series, presumably the RWD version that the next RWD, 450hp manual M2 will come from then this would be good for an A100 Supra.... but I’m just being hopeful with that.
The latest on...
The only thing I don’t like about the way he did this swap was that it removes the MKIV’s better designed and proven rear subframe in favor of Tesla’s subframe.
Yes that makes the transverse layout possible to transfer over and eliminates the driveshaft, the need for a longitudinal mounted...
They are currently with a modified GR Yaris. In the past, BMW had a hydrogen ICE V12 7 Series and Mazda had a hydrogen version of the RX-8.
I think the biggest hurdles will be the refueling infrastructure and poor fuel economy. Still, it’s another (nearly) zero emissions way for niche and...
That's solved very simply by getting to know the vehicle and its manual transmission's gearing and learning exactly how the shift pattern feels as if it's second nature. Just *don't* mis-shift at high speed thinking for instance you're in 3rd when you wanted to select 5th. Not all manual...
The MR2 rumor news has come up more than once in the last couple of years. I think it depends on how Toyota wants their sports model product stack to look past 2026. An A100 Supra as a hybrid seems to me a no-brainer and it would be stupid for Toyota to kill of the model just because it cannot...
From the Bestcar article:
"Toyota is looking not only at EVs but also at hydrogen engines and e-FUEL for carbon neutrality in the future!
The best car scoop team catches such Toyota's power unit strategy. The hydrogen engine here is not a system that generates electricity with hydrogen...
