This seems to be the case, plus Toyota making a big bet on leapfrog technologies (solid state batteries and a hydrogen refueling infrastructure being widely available) that are not going to serve in the short term but rather over the long term.
The future type of powertrain for the Supra likely...
I see. I knew years ago that the MKIV’s took a very long time to sell. Toyota even discounted all Turbos by about $10,000 USD by 1996 or 1997 for the last two model years in the U.S. which barely helped.
To be fair, the 300ZX/TT, RX-7 FD, 240SX and MR-2/Turbo all had the same low sales issue...
Have MKV sales already surpassed *all* MKIV sales in the U.S. from 1993-1998? Worldwide? If so that is impressive.
EVs are definitely going to become the prevalent thing. Currently lithium—ion battery pack designs very much limit packaging to larger and heavier vehicles and there aren’t...
Given their current track record and stated desire to co-develop nearly all their GR performance models I am inclined to agree with you.
But the Supra MKV contract for active production will end after model year 2026. Parts support will continue on for many, many years after that. Yet after...

The V35A-FTS is very good indeed. I do wonder how well it does with the low-COG mounting that Toyota wants for all their high performance GR models. It has an open-deck block design but with iron cylinder liners. I think a conversion to...
^^ Toyota is focused on the Supra being associated with a straight-six engine. Not a bad thing at all but for a couple of decades now the possibility of moving to a V6 has been facing them.
Even the chief engineer of the R34 Skyline its GT-R variant wanted to move to a V6TT back in the late...
Toyota, BMW and Magna-Steyr are not going to cancel their Supra/Z4 project early. As many have pointed out already there is a myriad of moving pieces in place between the manufacturing, supply chain and legal sides of the joint project. Both cars will finish out with MY2026.
And Toyota will...
A pretty good price overall (before dealer markup anyway...).
Adjusted for around 20-23 year inflation the GR86 is roughly $10k cheaper than a 5th gen Prelude, S14 240SX or similar car cost brand new at MSRP in the very late 1990’s.
Again... accounting for inflation.
I’m still waiting for the...
The 3S-GTE was indeed a "baby 1JZ/2JZ" engine. They certainly evolved it more than the JZ series ever was (unless you count the very not boost friendly 1JZ/2JZ-FSE direct injection motors with dual VVT-i cams).
I'm very familiar with the SW20 Turbos. A good friend of mine owned one some years...
Do you not personally like any previous generations of the MR2?
I disagree. I’m glad that any new type of MR2 is getting development consideration at all rather than yet another obnoxious crossover, CUV or SUV.
Besides, the CEO of Toyota and his hand-picked chief sportscar designer both want...
If it's co-developed with Porsche it will probably be a full EV MR since that is the direction the next Boxster and Cayman are supposed to be going in.
If it's co-developed with Lotus then my bet will be on the V6 hybrid MR drivetrain (almost undoubtedly automatic-only).
$90k territory was the...
My bet is on Lotus for this if a V6 hybrid is likely. They do have the platform for it and they also just developed a new small lightweight EV architecture that they want to scale down to the size of an Elise successor... as a pure EV. I think the latter (EV Elise successor) is not immediately...
The engine and manual transmission are the only parts of this car that fit with the name "Acura Integra".
The car itself looks like a TL or Maxima. Barf.
Even if the first three generations came in a four door variant Acura knows damn well that the only one anyone who remembers the Integra...
Especially since the new Civic is now the size of an Accord and should be badged as such.
There is a “Civic” in name only now.
The deceased Honda Fit had more going for it (with apologies to all the great 1990’s Civic variants) as a Civic-like city vehicle than this new Civic does.
Announcing...
.........um..........
That's the size of an Acura TL or Nissan Maxima.... NOT an Integra. Even if that's a "test mule" the wheelbase is entirely too long and the body is designed like your average family sedan.
This must be another one of those "four door coupe" things that are absolutely not...
^^ They got the rear hatch area looking good... but they've still got too many doors on the sides. I really hope this doesn't end up being a high-riding crossover "Integra".
They can’t do that though. The Corolla’s architecture isn’t set up for a Subaru boxer AWD driveline at all.
It is way more compatible with the GR Yaris’ engine and driveline which is what they’re doing with a horsepower bump. Brembos I agree could be spec’d for their GR Corolla just the same...
