FWIW, I agree with MyCorolla; this sounds like it was a problem with BMW's authorization service, not a problem with an OTA update. The cars phone home to see if they're authorized to use CarPlay. For some undisclosed reason, BMW's servers decided a bunch of vehicles were no longer authorized.
Sick burn. Not all forum members are male or American, but I agree that if they can afford a Supra they should also splurge on a drill and tape measure.
I wouldn't want the previous owner to have a key to my car.
Even if you don't buy a new key, I'd go to a dealer to have them delete the old key from the ECU. The previous owner will still have a working physical key, but they won't be able to start your car and drive off.

The Toyota allocation process is so broken. Getting your deposit back from the other dealer shouldn't be a problem given that they failed to get you the car when another dealer could.
