This is the problem with Toyota. Their focus shifted to sedans, SUVs and hybrids creating a bigger division within itself (Lexus/Toyota/Scion) leaving the sports car segment to Lexus. Now after this long hiatus, Toyota can only fill the sports car market with joint developments.
I still want...
The MKV is only being benchmarked with the Cayman because that's the card that they were dealt; a 2 seater Z4 platform to work off of. The MKIV was going up against the big dogs, 300ZX TT, Acura NSX NA, 911 turbo (964 and 993), Corvette C4 ZR-1, Skyline GTR, RX-7 TT and E36 M3.
I'm curious on the long term reliably as well. Hopefully Toyota's extensive testing analysis would help yield this car as more reliable then the MKIV. The last vehicle that I bought brand new was my 05 Tacoma 4WD double cab which now has an impressive 265K miles. It's still on the original...
The biggest downfall will be the dealer's ADM and the flippers. The last GT4 was competitively priced at 84K MSRP with this one rumored to be around 90K. Not bad for additional tweaks, an updated engine and Porsche keep it true to the sport with a 6 speed manual.
I respectfully disagree that it wouldn't change a thing. There would be a lot less angry car enthusiasts if Toyota went through their parts bin instead of BMW's.
The Supra has always been a GT just like it has always had a straight six. Toyota was able to shave off 721 lbs with the RC F GT...
Of course, you can't please everyone but that burn wouldn't have stung as much if it has more Toyota hard parts and less BMW.
When it was announced that BMW n Toyota were collaborating, many saw it as good things (like McLaren F1 with a nice BMW pedigree engine). Then, as it evolved, it went...
I get your first part and they no longer have multiple models to share the I6 like they did in the past. As I mentioned in the other thread, Toyota could have formulated the deal similar to the Morgan Plus Six if they wanted a I6. Oh well, what's done is done.
Regardless if their engines...
Enough with the name calling...
Comparing the MKIV spec levels to the MKV GR and GRMN is irrelevant since the MKIV followed traditional Toyota spec (Turbo/NA and manual/auto) where as the MKV is following more of a BMW/German spec (regular model and then the M or a GT4 spec). When was the...
Good job Mazda. Car enthusiasts around the world applaud you for not selling yourself out like Toyota did. Hopefully this means a new sports car in the making.
I really enjoyed listening to this guy's review. He addressed the same questions, concerns, gripes and head scratchers that I've been wondering about the MKV. I'm 6'2 so that was on point as well as the engine/exhaust sound. He had a neutral approach to his review about the overall identity...
I guess you can say it's "his own personal Supra" since he's the President of Toyota but it's been at the Toyota Museum in Torrance way before he became president.

How does one get invited to this event? Look at Matt Farah's face when the tail got squirrelly.
It does sound good but is it real engine sounds or simulated? At the M Track Days events the BMW's and M's do sound amazing and throaty but they were simulated.
